I don't want to sound mean, but that's not really how sources work.

I'm a massive Johnny Hockey fan. Have been since his first year at BC. Own two jerseys with his name and number on them, including the ugliest jersey in Flames history. Having said that, I'd be investigating trade opportunities. No player is bigger than the team and I'd be more than willing to send a possible malcontent out of town for a couple of players that can help now and down the line. I hope this gets solved in the next 24-48 hours, and everyone walks away feeling they did well. But if it drags out more than that, trade him away. The success of the Calgary Flames is more important to me than that of Johnny Gaudreau.

Trading him is beyond stupid. He wants to stay here, he is an elite taken. Any trade involving him we lose

Pump the brakes. Jamie Benn was in nearly the exact same scenario a few seasons ago. I can't imagine a trade that Dallas could've made then that would be better than currently having Benn. Johnny will get signed, might take until the 11th hour but is not good for either party not to get a contract sorted out before Oct 12.

Sure doesn't seems that way. Season starts in six days, against our most hated rival in their brand new shiny barn. If there was ever incentive for a player to get into the lineup to play a game, that is it. I seriously doubt he is being low-balled to the point where anyone would consider it insulting. His claims of a desire to stay in Calgary seems like lip service at this time.

Failed GM who never worked in the salary cap system thinks the Flames are being stupid? Best news I've heard all day!

We have never heard the Flames ask. Until Johnny publically requests a trade I am going to stand by the fact he wants to be here.

He should fire his agent in my opinion. Gross is in over his head here and probably over promised Gaudreau here

This really seems like something to worry about only after another six days at minimum. Besides, it's the Oilers. Hated rival or not, even sans Gaudreau that is a very beatable team up North.

One player doesn't make a team if what Gaudreau is asking for will hamper the team then i dont care if we start the season without him he can sit out.

We need to launch an investigation into MattyC and his sources.
I want a congressional hearing, and access to his email servers.

Should've traded Iginla during the pre season too

All true, but it doesn't hurt to put feelers out there. If you find that other teams have little interest in Gaudreau at his suggested salary demands, then you can be a little more confident in your number. If there are teams that have interest, and are willing to give up quality assets that work, you at least listen and have that in your back pocket before making your final offer. I was really hoping that there would be no drama around this team heading into the season and they would get off to a good start. For the first time in a very log time this is looking like a team with three seriously good lines, a good defensive group, and solid goaltending. It just pisses me off that a player can become a distraction like this, especially when he is my favorite player and one I have become emotionally invested in.

Do you honestly believe that Treliving has not already examined every contingency?

Relax. It will get done.

I wish there was a deadline for these deals to be done prior to training camp. As agents are always going to stall up to the last minute like this. The real losers here are Flames fans as the first three games of the season are against our hated rivals and the Flames best forward will either be unavailable or rusty from missing camp. I might have to turn off my phone that entire first week as it could be a brutal start to the season.

Agreed. Johnny could've done one more year in the NCAA if he didn't want to be in Calgary and the Flames brass allowed him to burn a year off his ECL to be in this position, so this is something both parties wanted. There should be no talks of trade until way after the season has started

He's been ok, not even close to the only bright spot. Bennett, Brouwer, Elliot, Giordano all have have better pre-seasons and maybe even Jokipakka as well.
