Baertschi is exactly what we thought he was. A talented guy without enough compete to make any sort of major impact. He will flash for a few games a year and keep you wanting but will never amount to much unless the switch goes on in his head. He is a 2nd line player completely dependent on his linemates to generate plays. Let is go, he's gone and we have a very promising prospect for him.

Seems like Anton Rodin is the shiny new toy for them, and likely to play wing on the 2nd line. Which is interesting because he's two years older than Sven. He does look it, though, from preseason viewings. Certainly seems more fully developed as a player.

Curious to see who they put at 2C. Between Sutter, Horvat and Granlund, Sutter is probably the most legitimate option, but Horvat is probably better offensively. Still, all three of those guys are third line centers in my book.

LOL at the person(s) who want Granlund and/or Baertschi back.

Lest we forget how inconsistent at best they were for much of their time here AND how garbage they were for the most part with the Nucks last year.

But oooh...OMG, they look good in preseason. Oh nos, we so fcuked up there.

In terms of his performance on Friday, he was mostly a perimeter player. Rarely went to the front of the net and rarely willing to risk contact to make a play. There were a couple of plays where he overcame these limitations - and he looked dangerous when he did so. But for the most part, same old Sven.

Sven, despite his skill, plays with the intensity of a wet fart.

Baertschi's issue is he's pretty much a perimeter player, but lacks the high end skills to rely on that alone to be effective. He plays as intense as Huselius, but lacks Huselius's skills. I haven't seen anything so far with him on the Canucks that makes me think he's changed at all since his time with the Flames.

Yeah, you can tell he expects things to come easy. When he is completely open and unchallenged, he is great. But challenged he folds easily.

I think he will an a 15-20 goal player in the league eventually, maybe as soon as this year, but he will never be a very impactful player.

He's like an equally skilled and intense, but less tall, Canadian and centre-ish Joe Colborne.

Bad analogy, as wet farts can become pretty intense, pretty quickly.

You should probably cut back on the Taco Bell.

Thanked for the laugh.

That being said though, anyone miss this guy? At all? I've completely forgotten about him.

I dont wish him luck though.

I hated Sven for his immature behaviour when he asked for a trade, but based on what i've heard and seen, he seems to have matured. He's apparently even commented on his immaturity in Calgary and taken some ownership and blame for why things didn't work it.

To say he's not intense or doesn't try is probably not accurate as he is bit of feisty player. He was just immature while in Calgary and probably a little jealous that Johnny and Mony surpassed him.

They didnt just 'surpass' him, they blew him out of the water. He wasnt even in the rearview mirror.

I remember the camp interview when the asked Baertschi about potentially playing with Monahan and he said that Monahan was good but he wasn't counting on playing with him right away because sometimes going back to junior is for the best. Then Monahan made the team and Baertschi got sent down and sulked.

I dont recall that at all, but yeah, Monahan and Gaudreau are bonafide superstars and are now being paid like it.

Sven has an NHL contract because Jim Benning gave up assets to get him and doesnt want to look like an idiot (again) and because Vancouver is super weak.

Oh god, I doubt I could find a training camp interview from 3 years ago. I can't even remember if was TSN or Flames TV. Check threads from around September 2013. I don't have the will to do it.

He went from the top six to the fourth line to healthy scratch in a real damn hurry last year, which I think definitely impressed on him the realization that he needed to stop listening to his father's words about how entitled he should be and start listening to his coaches. It is to his credit that he turned things around in Vancouver rather than staying the course and finding himself drummed out of a second organization.

I think his give-a-crap level is much better as a result. But he's still a deeply flawed player.
