Too bad you're not in Calgary, as Nose Hill is now a huge omanyte nest.
Sadly my scanner is not working half as well the past week, so no good rares for me recently. How have people been finding theirs? Luck?
And damn team blue taking over all the gyms up to level 9 / 10...

How much of a radius around a Pokemon will it show up in sightings?
Just tried to track a Snorlax that showed up in my sightings, and found the edge of the radius in one place, but shortly after I turned back it timed out.

Will be back in Calgary for Thanksgiving weekend plus a few extra days, so good to know!
There is a really good scanner for Android.
Here in Quebec, we call the blue gyms separatists. In Calgary they must be Oiler fans.
Edit: wow. Just scanned a chunk of Nose Hill and you are definitely not kidding about the Omanyte nest:

Actually saw a Snorlax in the wild in Chestermere of all places. Spawns have really increased.

Was pretty fun tonight. I had been looking at some maps, and there was 5 level 10 yellow gyms in a pretty tight bunch fairly close by us, so we decided to take the biggest one down.
Before we were done, a couple more people showed up to help, so we moved on to the next one - and more joined the cause.
An hour later, 8 of us from both red and blue had taken down all the level 10 yellow gyms.
It was way more fun than my description was, I promise.
Yellow? C'mon man...

One of the latest patches saw the "IV" glitch removed, where pokemon who had a higher pokedex # had a much greater chance of having better stats.
Despite rare spawn increases, this means more of the rares will have bad stats.
That made tonight bitter sweet as I broke my week long dry spell for rares but it was a pretty poor dragonite. I now have 6, and can hit them with a ball every throw (it still takes ~10 ultra balls with rasberries though).
Good to see a few people out at 1 am catching it with me.

Your 6 Dragonites beats my zero by a fair margin.
It's difficult to feel too bad for you

Once again if you were in Calgary there's a few dragonite spawn points that would help you with that pokedex!

Made some pretty good progress on the pokedex and got some strong gym attackers/defenders this weekend.
My first Dragonite was a 156cp baby and at that point I'd never seen a Dragonair or Dratini. Caught both this weekend (meaning I did it in reverse order...Dragonite --> Dragonair --> Dratini )
Then found a ~2000cp Dragonite...threw all 40 of my Ultraballs and finally caught it in a Great Ball.
Also caught a ~1600cp Lapras. Good weekend!

What is typical data usage while playing the game?
I have read about 3-10 MB per hour?
What about using GPS in the US?

That's probably about right. I went to Denver for a few days and spent a few hours a day using the app without going above about 15-20 MB per day. Incidentally, travelling is an excellent way to up your Pokedex count - there were so many that are common in Denver which I've rarely or never seen in Calgary.

Here is my itinerary for the weekend and beyond:
Arrive Calgary Friday, then Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Drumheller, back to Calgary for a couple days before leaving Wednesday night.
Will hit Nose Hill for Omanytes, but would like to hear any specifics on locations to hunt Dragonite and anything else interesting at any of these places.
80K into Level 29, Pokedex 141, 2 Omanytes needed to finish current Pokedex.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Unfortunately no specific Dragonite spawns. Definitely Charmanders at Confederation Park, though if you want more. Tones of Omanytes at Nose Hill as you mentioned. Good luck and enjoy your Alberta Poke-cation!

Dratini used to be found a lot at PiP. Consistently there has been a dragonite spawn most evenings sometime between 8pm - 11pm (usually later in that range) on the West side.

Not sure how useful this is. It's basically just luck seeing one on the scanner, although now supposedly Niantic is blocking them again too..
