That looks like a borderline hit for a regular NHL game to me. Maybe a "the head is the first point of contact" deal that could end up in a suspension, but either way, drilling your teammate like that in a scrimmage is not going to win you any friends or a job.

Its a ridiculous decision by Seiloff regardless of its clean or dirty. Imagine Kanzig or someone like that giving one of our better players a concussion. Would we all be sitting here dissecting whether it was a clean hit or trying to run Kanzig out of town.

That is Seiloff's game. Dorion's interview is a piss off. "That's a team in there, they're gonna rally?" Someone tell him Seiloff is part of their team too. Unless its guys who are expected to make the team vs tryouts/prospects.
|
Even if cheap hits are Seiloff's game, you gotta be a really dumb player to think it will impress your new team in a scrimmage against a veteran coming off a serious injury. What else should he do to 'impress' his new team? Slash Karlsson on the wrist during a drill?

Move on to where - the ECHL? That's the trajectory his career is taking.

I have no issues with the hit. Sieloff was trying to hit him shoulder-to-shoulder, but Clark moved at the last second. As a result, the hit was harder than it was intended to be and it wasn't pure shoulder-on-shoulder.
If Senators release him, I hope the flames take him back. Good hard nosed hockey if you ask me.

Seiloff's whole game is about hitting and hitting hard. If he ever makes the NHL, that will be why. It's all he does well and if he can't do it in a scrimmage, he might as well not even be there.
The only issue is that it was a player made of glass that he hit. He should have held back in this instance.

The difference between making the NHL and playing in the AHL for Seiloff is some $800,000.00. He's onto his last chance and if he doesn't play his game, he has no chance of making the NHL. He's in a position where he has to go out and play hard and finish every check or else he's giving up his chance on a near million dollar payout for a $70,000 AHL salary. It's not his fault that Mr. Glass happens to be on the ice while he was.

Sieloff's shoulder is at the same height as MacArthur's shoulder as he approaches him. However, as he lifts upwards through the hit, his shoulder is at head height by the time of full contact, and finishes above the height MacArthur's original head position.
Not only is it a head shot, and not only does he lift up into it, but he finishes with his elbow out.
Of course MacArthur's team-mates are going to lose it over that hit. Anyone that thinks that is okay is still playing 80s hockey.

Watching the video, I don't see how this could be anything more than an unfortunate incident. MacArthur is down pretty low, -and Seiloff doesn't appear to leave his feet at all. Definitely not targeting the head or any attempt to be at all dirty there.
That's the way Seiloff has to play if he wants to make the team

That looks like a nothing hit too me.
Don't have a problem with Ryan going after him though. That's his longtime teammate, and Sieloff is a rookie from another team.

I love how many people are definitely, positively sure the hit was clean/dirty/to the shoulders/to the head/etc.
I've watched the video multiple times on YouTube, slowed it down to x1/4 speed and I still don't know anything conclusive. The video isn't the greatest quality and the angle isn't the best either.
I'm sure the players on the ice had a much better perspective, although even they could have been caught up in the play rather than the hit.
Whether it was clean or dirty, the one thing I'll say is that I have no problem with Ryan going after Sieloff. However, that probably should have been the end of it (physically). There was no reason for Neil to continue the aggressive behaviour.
Even if Sieloff intentionally targeted MacArthur's head and left the ice, Neil (or preferably one of the coaching staff) should have had words with him instead. "I get you're trying to make a statement about your role, but cool it kid."
Ryan fighting, then Neil fighting, then Donovan telling him to leave practice... all that's going to do is make Sieloff feel defensive and cause a huge rift between him and the team at a time when you should be pulling together.

Not sure about it being a dirty hit, but 100% sure it was an idiotic one... during training camp, in a scrimmage. LOL.
I'm guessing this wasn't the first time in this training camp he's been trying to lay someone out.

Even if playing with an edge is your game, you dont make the squad by laying out vets in scrimmage/drills. You make the team by throwing big hits in the exhibition games.

They'll just cut Sieloff, problem solved. He's a bubble player that no-one will miss.

I'm also not really sure about that hit, Sieloff stays planted, Mcarthur has his head down and is not looking through where he is skating. My only real concern about the hit is where Sieloff has his arm a bit high, but he is a big guy, taller than Mcarthur. We spent a long time enjoying harder and dirtier looking hits from guys like Sarich who happen to clean someone off the ice who doesn't have their head up. I'd have a stronger opinion if it was a hit from behind, charging, boarding, etc.

exactly. You want to make the team, make an impression on the coaches and the team is do that in the pre-season against opposition. Not against your own teammates in a scrimmage.
That's like trying to show the organization how tough you are by trying to start fights with your teammates in practice, it makes no sense.
No way he makes the team now in my opinion, brutal.

They traded Alex Chiasson for him, so I think it's fair to say the Senators value him more than a PTO player. Although I could see them sending him down to their AHL team for a while to let everyone cool off.

Sens wanted rid of Chiasson in the worst way, he was an ugly reminder of how bad they botched the Spezza trade. He was terrible for them last year.
If we didnt give up Seiloff, Id guess the Sens were going to waive Chiasson.

Gotta think Weisbroad would bring him to Vanvouver if he ends up being released.
