But how many decent players have even fallen into that category to begin with?

Lots of talk on the Gaudreau Contract on the fan 960 right now.
Kerr or Steinebrg (not sure who is who) thinks if its a bridge it will be around $6 million.

I think it was Will Nault and Steinberg.
But I have to agree with Steinberg. The team needs to make an exception for Gaudreau in regards to that Gio cap and Gross should come down from the 8+. Pretty obvious stuff.
But at this point, I wouldn't scoff at a max term deal.
I just want this headache to be done already.

I don't like the way Steinberg said that "McKenzie confirmed the Gio Cap". All McKenzie said was according to report from Eric Francis... that's a pretty far leap to confirmation on Steinberg's part.

I wasn't even going to go down that road with Gaudreau, but your level of puck bunny has brought me to it. I've never seen a poster make want to dislike a player on my own team as much as you do.

Nobody's making you like Gaudreau God damn it . Quotes like yours make me dislike people like you ...lol God damn it !!!!

Must have meant $6 million per year. $3 million is completely implausible.

You're willing to set the franchise that far back to save a million a year in cap space?

I find it funny that when it comes to CalgaryNEXT lots of fans spout the anti-owner rhetoric but when it comes to stuff like this we expect them to open up their wallets and toss aside millions of dollars or flush millions down the toilet buy out players that are fan whipping boys. These negotiations are very complicated as the Flames have to balance their salary cap outlook for today and the future and if you cave in to one player then Bennett's agent plays hardball and so on. Handing Gaudreau $8 million also raises the bar to which other star RFA's will use as measuring sticks which is bad for everyone. There's lots of moving parts here and it's important the Flames drive a hard bargain if the Gaudreau party is in fact looking for near $8 million a season.
