Nope. I don't care about that stuff at all. Never give it a second thought.
I love it when people try to tell others WHY they have a certain opinion as a way to dismiss it.

And they may be catering to the 50+ crowd because the younger generation spends intermissions arguing on internet forums rather than watching live TV. And then of course they are the first ones to cut cable too. So maybe the seniors are a good audience?
Well maybe if the host talked less about stories of how Bobby Orr once helped Kris Draper's grandpa push his car out of a snow bank or how Ray Bourque once told Sidney Crosby that he can't wait to see him in the NHL at timbits hockey, the younger crowd would watch.

Listening to Ron Maclean talk is like listening to grandparents tell stories about completely random BS that no one really cares about. One day he's gotta realize that a massive part of the current audience for HNIC wasn't even alive when half the people who star in his anecdotes were playing in the NHL.

I will take Ron Maclean over a mid 40's tongue ring sporting hipster doofus all day every day.

omg. I thought with MacLean on the panel again, Hometown Hockey was going to die in a fire. THAT was the BEST news ever.

And now you're taking that away from me? Why? WHY?

Agreed. Intermission panels were funnier and more insightful with George. George's interviews (several GE's some a table, etc) are far more interesting than half all of Ron's opinions while he's interviewing someone else for theirs .

Familiarity and comfort isn't better than new because it's familiar and comfortable

But that's how legends are born. If noone talks about the Orrs or the Marios, then they will forever be forgotten. And what would Canadians be proud of if we stopped talking about the greats from the past? And that goes beyond sports. What's next? Enough with the Terry Fox stories?

I think there is a place for that on HNIC.

People who need to be constantly talked about so people remember them aren't legends.

Does sportsnet seriously think that swapping out some hosts is gonna make a difference?

Hockey growth is stagnating, production values on NFL and NBA games is miles better, young people don't have cable anymore, and sportsnet overpaid big time. Too much money and too much term. Just sucks to people lose their jobs because of corporate stupidity

I'll miss George hopping around like a spastic, making a useless point, gap-toothed giggling to himself after, then awkwardly letting the conversation between Kypreos and Hrudey continue.

And not ever talking about them will preserve their legacy?

Either way, Bobby Orr stories are fine with me. That's how kids today learn about their existence.

Meh, how about be like every other sport and push the players that kids can actually watch on a weekly basis?

Rogers is awful at marketing this game and Ron MacLean is a prime example of the awfulness. I'm sure people aren't flocking to tune in to Ron's hokey stories about some guy he knows that knew someone that played hockey in some small town.

There's the normal way of talking about hockey legends (talk about or show segments on their careers, their highlights, their stats) and there is Ron Maclean's uninteresting stories that have little to do with anything.

That comes off really ignorant. I figure you don't really mean it like that.
Some could say that this attitude is like cancelling Remembrance day so we can focus on today's soldiers.

How is it ignorant?

Is it not more in the interest of your product to sell people on players they can actually tune in to watch?

You're comparing a television broadcast of a sport to Remembrance Day and calling me ignorant haha.

Wow.

Yes remembering soldiers that died so our country can enjoy the freedom it does is totally like remembering some people who played a kids game on tv 30 years ago.

Some could say that. But I sure wouldn't.

There is something to hearing too much of the same thing over and over again.
As an example, I've had my fill of the 72 series. Not just for now. But for my life. I've consumed/heard enough about the 72 series. I'm good. Don't need another morsel of it.

I wouldn't draw a line to Remembrance Day. That's a reach.

I doubt that in 5 years Sportsnet will feel like it over spent when LIVE sports content will be one of the only revenue streams left to networks. People are dropping cable and going to Internet only devices like Kodi at an alarming rate.

They will if they don't give Canadians easier access to a product that they can get RIGHT NOW and for free.

It took me nearly an hour to find the relevant information to watch a world cup game using my paid for subscription. Then I realized some guy was streaming it on youtube of all places and I was watching the game within 2 minutes on my TV with chromecast.

I mean, it was on freakin' youtube...
