Longer games, worse officiating, all the rule changes slanting the game towards more passing, more annoying announcers (stop mentioning fantasy every other point), more #######s and criminals in the league, Goodell. I'm sure there's a few things I missed. But yeah the NFL peaked between about 2001-2008. Without fantasy and gambling the NFL would already be in decline.

I think the owners might have shot themselves in the feet with all of the PSLs at the new stadiums. Football has always been a traditionally blue-collar sport but now that blue-collar fans can't afford to go to games they're not maintaining that connection to the teams.

Yeah, I'm still not sold on Siemien. I didn't think he played that well against the Panthers and the Colts D is a mess right now. The good news is the only good defense he has to play for the next while is next week against the Bengals. That said, if starts to fall on his face and the Broncos are .500 or worse heading into the trade deadline, does Elway start to panic at the thought of the window closing on that defense?

Highly doubtful. They were ready to deal Talib, I don't think a panic move for Romo is feasible at all. Im not worried about him not playing "great" when they beat their Superbowl rematch in his first career start. He's got a good temperament for a QB and a turnover machine like Romo is exactly the wrong thing for this team. They want to run and win with defence.
He doesn't have the sexy pedigree or media hype machine behind him like Dak but I don't see why one would be sold on him and not Trevor. The kid's decent so far and for now that will work.

Thursday Night football killed a lot of my interest in fantasy and pick'em pools. And that is what kept me interested in the rest of the league beyond my favourite team. So when that favourite team reverts to sucking hind teat again, there isn't really much compelling me to pay attention.
I've never really been someone to rant about officiating - so long as it doesn't seem biased, it happens. I'd actually prefer an incorrect call to the delays a lot of leagues seem to suffer with replays.
I've watched a game and a few quarters so far this season, but now that my PVR will be filling up with TV shows airing new episodes, I can see my NFL watching being curtailed even more. I'll follow but it isn't something I look forward to on Sunday anymore.

I can only speak for myself, but I haven't watched more than about 10 minutes of televised football so far this year. I'm going to try to get to the week 2 games tomorrow night but I just haven't had time. Week 1 I was in Philadelphia and then hungout at a postgame party where it was pretty hard to pay attention to the games. This week I was at a friend's property on Pender Island, where there was no WiFi or TV. Next week I'll watch the Eagles game but probably miss the early games because my friends and I are starting a weekly game of pick-up football. In previous years I probably wouldn't have done this but yeah, the commercials and length of the games are really starting to get in the way of real life, especially now that I can just wait a day and watch the condensed versions of the games.

And the Seahawks get hit with a big penalty:
Quote:
The team was fined $400,000, and will lose a week of OTAs next season, along with their 2017 fifth-round pick. Coach Pete Carroll will also be fined $200,000, and the team will have to pay players for the OTAs which are cancelled next year.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, owners Terry and Kim Pegula met with offensive players (like quarterback Tyrod Taylor) on Friday morning. Per the report, coach Rex Ryan was not present for the meetings — and he wasn’t happy about it when he learned that the owners had met with his players.

I hate Thursday night football as well, it just doesn't work for me.
I am in a few pools but quite frankly I really hate them. I just want to watch the games and not be obsessed with who won or lost or how many yard my receivers get. Unfortunately there are not many quality games anymore to watch. A game without a touchdown? I'd be asking for my money back.

LMAO. I don't think he actually exists! I see no evidence!
I do like what Virgil Green has done. He's come a long way.

Browns are going to Brown. Done to their rookie third stringer, Kessler after McCown hurts his shoulder and could miss two or three weeks.

The New England Patriots might have a tricky situation at quarterback the next couple weeks.
The legendary Peyton Manning just so happens to have a lot of time on his hands these days.
All of which led CBS football analyst Boomer Esiason to a simple conclusion: The Patriots need to give Manning a call.

Good grief.
