Dropping nearly $200 USD for an authentic jersey, no matter WHOSE it is, IMO, buys a license to wear that sucker until it disintegrates

What about wearing a Hudler jersey when the Flames are playing against the Stars... not against it but it would be a tiny bit weird.

IMO the only thing that matters is the crest on the front. After that it doesn't matter.

Agreed.
You bought a Flames jersey, you get to wear it. Anyone with a problem with the era, number, or name on the back needs to re-evaluate priorities.

I enjoy seeing fans wear past player jerseys to games. Jogs the memory of certain guys.
Who doesn't get a huge smile on their face seeing a pedestal Zalapski in the crowd?

I've seen Brian Boucher, Carsen Germyn, Brent Krahn, and Vesa Viitakoski Flames jerseys at the Saddledome. They're fun to see.

I think having jerseys of former players in the stands adds character to the crowd.
It almost seems too commercial/bandwagony if the jerseys in the crowd are of all current players.
The first time I was in the Saddledome the first jersey I saw was a Brathwaite jersey, which put a huge smile on my face (this was 2003 and he was no longer with the team). Freddy B played in the minors in my hometown, so it was a nice little cosmic 'welcome' to the stadium I've dreamed of attending since I was a little kid.
Wear them, wear them with pride.

You said you could be looking into getting a new jersey. I'd recommend getting an obscure player on the back of your jersey, if you get a new one. Get a Chiasson, or a Vey, or a Jokipakka. You see a million Monahan and Gaudreau jerseys every game at the Saddledome -- get something a little different.

The problem with this strategy is that these players are less likely to be long term or meaningful Flames. If I am dropping 200+ on a jersey I most likely want a Flames legend type of player or if not a legend, a player who meant an insane amount.
I have a Kiprusoff retro I still rock. I'd like to buy a new jersey but the Flames hideous current ones are keeping me at bay. When we get a nicer jersey I'll buy a new one with a Flames star like Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Giordano, Brodie, etc. any of these guys are great choices. Tkachuk could be a name to get soon too.

Does anyone have a Conroy horse head jersey they wouldn't mind selling?

I stick with TheScorpion's idea. I like getting jersey's of the less popular, unsung heroes. Everyone has an Iginla, Kipper, Gaudreau or a Monahan, and rightfully so, but it's nice to support the other guys too
I'll keep wearing my McGrattan from time to time, and this year I picked up a Brouwer. If they bounce back a bit, I want a Ferland and a Bouma as well.
To the Op's question, as long as it has the Flaming C on the front, doesn't matter what it says on the back

You're coming to Calgary for your first game ever at the Dome? Sweet! Focus on that and have fun.
What you choose to wear is irrelevant, and nobody else's business

I'm buying a Monahan NA. I would like to buy all of his jersey variations through his career.

Never understood the desire to buy obscure player jerseys. If that obscure player is your favourite player have at it, but picking a player for the sake of being different is bizzare. Doing anything for the sake of being different is weird, but especially a jersey. The jersey minus the name on the back is exactly the same as everyone else's anyway, so how unique are you being anyway?
Just pick things you like, no need to rage against conformity all the time.
