Thompson use to do montages for HNIC until Rogers came along. One of the best at what he does.

All of the shows on the tour so far have been just over 2 hours with the encores, so even if they go a little longer tonight, it should be done by 9pm Mountain.

This should be epic.
It is interesting that Ron MacLean is hosting the show tonight. This seems like a job for George Strombo.

That Shaw guide for me, in Calgary, is showing the broadcast from 6:30 until 9. I set my pvr to record the concert and the Olympics afterwards because I think it might go long.

I'd be surprised if it went too long. Doubt CBC wants the olympics pre-empted.
If they stick to the schedule they have all tour it'll start at 830 local and end at almost exactly 11pm local.

I just moved to Kingston yesterday. I'll be checking it out for a bit. I'm a little freaked out because we will have a baby with us. If it's too loud or nuts we will leave.
The city has free transit to and from downtown for it today.

If the CBC didn't want to pre-empt the Olympic coverage, they wouldn't have agreed to show the concert at all.
Most, if not all, of the Olympic events will be over by the time the concert is over, whether it ends at 10:30pm ET or if the Hip play till midnight. The only event that might still be going on is the Women's Volleyball gold medal match between Serbia and China.

I live in Kingston. My wife and I are heading to Market Square shortly. Incidentally, Kingston Transit will be running express buses with 15 minute service intervals until 230 this morning (and, as already noted, for free). Kudos to them. Great idea (especially considering how small Kingston is).

Ok then why would they schedule it for 2.5 hours? If the hip plan on playing until midnight?

Plus, I think the ratings for The Hip concert will be quite a bit higher than a random day of the Olympics on a Saturday night.

The original question was about how long to set the pvr, not Olympic ratings.
If they stick to the script so far, 630 to 9 is what it'll be. But who knows. Maybe they play a 4 hour set.

Most concerts on this tour have been starting a few minutes after 8:30 and ending around 10:45. CBC has it going to 11 (ET) which makes sense.
My hope is there's at least one extra encore. The tour has been mostly following this format:
(1) Every show has played a four-song set from Man Machine Poem.
(2) Every show has played either a four-song set or an encore set from Phantom Power
(3) Every show has played a four-song set or encore set from four of Up to Here, Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day for Night and Trouble at the Hen House
(4) Every show has played a four-song set from one of Music at Work, In Violet Light, In Between Evolution, World Container, We are the Same or Now for Plan A.
I feel like they're going to add one extra encore (they've been doing two encores) and that encore will cover the album otherwise missed from (3).
I also wonder if they'll pull a song from the EP off. My guess would be either Smalltown Bringdown or Highway Girl. Not sure when they might be able to fit that in. In the 80s they used to finish shows off with All Canadian Surf Club so that's another possibility maybe (fourth encore)?

Oh, well just to be safe can't hurt to add an extra half hour.
I would be surprised if they went past 9 personally but I'm going to set mine for an extra 30.

I'm guessing there will be some surprise guests pop up on stage, and maybe Gord gets a bit chatty. This is not likely to completely follow the script of the tour shows so far, given everything going on.

Speaking of chatty, Ron will dominate that half hour pre-show with his Canadiana ramblings.
Also, I see what you did there with that last line.
Regardless, I have the feeling that the Hip is a little too popular for Strombo's musical tastes.

What channel is the half hour pre-show on? I don't see it on CBC on my PVR.

Well, they had to schedule it for some length, and the other shows on the tour have all come in under 2.5 hours.
I doubt they have any plans to play until midnight, but I also don't think they're going to let CBC dictate how long they play for (nor is the CBC likely to try to dictate anything).
Like others, I'm treating this the same as a live sports event. It's scheduled for 2.5 hours, but I'm recording extra just in case.

Good question; I just heard about coverage starting with a pre-show, first at some point on the blanket Olympics coverage I had on last night. Later the first I heard about Ron being the host, so I put 2+2 together. Ron's in Rio so its's not like he's going to be hosting on stage.
I assumed it was on the main station by maybe not.

Good thing I checked my PVR because I was 98% full. Had to make some space available for the Hip show.
