I was going to have a few friends over, and watch it on my big screen in the basement but I'm not sure how many can make it. Surferguy, you have plans?

Not sure yet Fuzz. I'm on kid duty so it might be a solo mission on my couch. That said i may head to my brothers in the south. Either way it will be an event that we will all remember where we were. That night in Kingston.
Cracher - Enjoy the concert of your life

My buddy has a little one-bedroom apartment a few blocks from the K-Rock Centre. This week, rented it out for $300 on AirBNB for Saturday night.

More refined thoughts -
Tomorrow marks the show we have all been looking towards. Mixed feelings all around. I'm not going to wax poetic and go on about what it means to all of us.
We know what it means. We will all remember where we were and who we were with. Gather together and cherish the memory. This is a celebration, a national celebration for magnificent Gord.
August 20 2016 - will forever become That Night In Kingston.

My boss emailed me yesterday. He's camping in Port Burwell this week, heading up to Kingston tomorrow night. He only bought his ticket about 2 weeks ago, he's getting really excited. Leaving his wife and kids at the campground with their other friends and going to the concert with his buddy.
I would have liked to hear that conversation!

I keep getting invited to watch it at peoples' houses, but this is something I just want to watch alone, on my TV, with my pvr, and full autonomy to rewind, pause, rewind, rewind, and maybe rewind. I'm sure I'm going to want to listen to a few songs 3-4-5 times over, and want to listen to any addresses to the crowd more than once. Or I might want to just watch straight through, and then re-watch from the beginning. Either way, what I don't want, is anyone wanting to do the opposite, so this is something I'm deliberately watching alone.

I have been wondering that from the beginning. It seamed a foregone conclusion that Gord wasn't going to make it, but when you read what the doctor said and the information on what he has, in most cases it doesn't sound terminal.

I don't know about that. Only thing I heard is that one day it will come back. I did read that the doctors are surprised at his energy levels.

Ah, OK. Just did some looking. I thought I had read earlier that it was very curable, but it doesn't seam to be the case.
This is what I had read earlier:
Quote:
Dr. Perry said the good news is that Mr. Downie has a type of glioblastoma that is known to respond well to treatment. He has a specific genetic marker – positive MGMT methylation status – that can translate into “significantly longer survival,” the doctor said.

My thoughts - I feel that there will be another studio album.
Maybe a few one off shows depending on the health of Gord. The way this tour has been conducted and the manner of them on stage I truly feel that this is it. I don't know what kind of show to expect tonight.

Muchmusic is doing a Hip marathon today. Might be a good way to see the video for Lake Fever which I can't seem to find on the interwebs.

Fuzz, glioblastoma is very terminal. My aunt had it and managed to survive for two and a half years after diagnosis and a prognosis of surviving a matter of weeks/months. She had three operations and two rounds of chemo in that time span, her quality of life was not good at the end. I was hoping that Gord would be able to finish this tour and it looks like he will, I hope he can write a little more but this isn't something that will go away.
Anyone going out in the SW tonight? I heard Ojs and grey eagle are going to air the concert. Not sure where to go. Not sure if I should watch in public either

Well, regarding this being the "end" nothing is in stone, it's certainly going to be a month by month thing given the ongoing condition of the lead singer, but on a multi-date national stage, it appears this could be the last time.
In fact, CBC had all municipalities etc who wanted to show the concert for free, sign a waiver for allowance to show it publicly. In that waiver, stated cities couldn't charge for it, sell advertising etc, and they also couldn't advertise this as more any reference to this being "the end" or "final" or that sort of tone. Now of course that's also in part to keep it positive and not make it a eulogy either from the CBC or the band itself.
Bob McKenize tweeted today and said that he knows Gord has some sort of solo project ongoing.

I have tickets to Jim Jefferies' late show in Edmonton (10:30). The Shaw guide says the concert starts at 6:30 and ends at 8:30. If, somehow, they are able to fit the entire set in that 2 hours, I can watch, race to Jube, and make it just in time for the opener.

Kingston is gonna be nuts. On the train from TO, can see the 401 from here. Very heavy traffic heading into town. People are talking 25-30k people flooding Kingston for this.
