Lexi Thompson
and I think if she wins (or Lydia Ko and Suzann Petterson etc) a lot of the men will privately be angry they gave away the opportunity to be the first gold medallist (since 1904).

I'm not saying the Olympic golf should be a multi country Ryder Cup, just that team events such as alternate shot could be added. My proposed Olympics golf line up would have medal events for the following spread out over the two weeks:
-16 person 9 hole match play
-72 hole stroke play
-18 hole Stableford system
-18 hole best ball stroke play (each country gets 1 team of 2)
-18 hole alternate shot stroke play (each country gets 1 team of 2). They could also add a co-ed version of this.
This would inject some fun and variety into the Olympic golf although will never happen due to the already tight golf calendar.

According to Todd Halpen on 960 this morning, the IGF was required to use the "industry standard" for rules when applying to get golf added, so they didn't have a choice to use a more novel format.

They really should be doing match play though. If the Olympics are going to Olympics and country limit players, stroke play becomes a pretty mediocre event without so many great players in the field. At least with match play you get high drama and some upsets. This event is basically a European Tour event. Realistically they should take the top 60 players regardless of country, then cherry pick to get more countries in, and actually have a cut (cut drama is fun).

It's on Golf Channel too where I'm sure the coverage is significantly better.

Well it's definitely on Golf Channel. I'm not sure if CRTC bullcrap means it has to be blocked in Canada because CBC has the rights, but you can watch on the Golf Channel website if you can get a US proxy.

Too bad. The little bit I watched of the CBC coverage (which is just generic IOC English commentary) before I came into work was pretty bad. Doesn't seem like they know how to cover golf very much. Feherty himself is working the Olympics for GC too, although gotta put up with Johnny Miller no doubt.

Nice four putt double bogey on a par 5 start for Rickie Fowler.

Ya, I should have realized we won't get any of the NBC/GC coverage this week in Canada. Unreal.

63 for Marcus Peters to lead at -8. Bubba meanwhile is all but out of it at +4.

Few things are more frustrating than watching a golf broadcast that almost never shows the leaderboard
