Fwiw i love my grand Cherokee ecodiesel. It's the same engine you get in a ram if you feel so inclined to get a truck. It tows about 7500lbs, more in the ram. Beat part is it turns about 10l/100km in the city, 8 on the highway (made it from Calgary to comox on 1 tank or 85l, and that was at 120-150 the whole way), and 16 pulling my 6000lb trailer through Rogers pass at 115km/hr. It's seriously a beast

I'm currently in the market too.

But I don't need a work truck, and those 3/4 ton workhorses with the duramax diesel actually intimidate me. The maintenance that a diesel requires is not something I am interested in.

And although a tiny part of me wants to have the biggest truck on the block, I'm also not very flashy or keen on spending $20k more than I need to. I can find a nice 1/2 ton Denali for $70k.

EDIT: Aw man this one looks sick. But it's basically $90k

Have you towed with the new truck yet? I have two camping buddies that recently upgraded their older F-150's to 2016's with the aluminum body and are both having major issues with sway now.

I have always been a Chevy guy but was seriously considering making the jump to Ford until I heard this. Let me know your thoughts when you pull with it.

I pick it up tomorrow (hopefully) so I haven't towed with it. My trailer is only 4000 lbs, so I'd be super surprised if I had any issues with that, but I'll let you know. Do they have weight-distribution hitches? I do even though my trailer isn't big. Will be interesting to see.

You can totally get a duramax in the $60k range. Better to spend the $20k on the engine and transmission rather than trim packages that are absolutely worthless in 5 years. At least the diesel will depreciate less in the long term. A gas Denali is crappier than a diesel at any trim level imo.

Please post how the trailer back up works, I saw it on TV the other day and I instantly thought it was the best "gimmick" I've ever seen.

I'll be honest, I hate backing up because my wife gives me the worst direction ever. I don't know how many times I have to say "If you can't see me in the mirror I can't see you."

I'm not even sure I want a duramax. Truthfully, I don't need it. And I'm afraid of the maintenance that goes with it.

I'm a truck virgin so I'll start off slow with a Sierra 1500. Likely SLT.

Denali's are nice, but totally overpriced.

I've had a Duramax for 9 years now. The maintenance isn't that terrible, maybe 40% more than a regular gas truck. Oil changes usually cost about $200, but depending how much you drive that's a twice a year hit. Otherwise its mostly the same.

Yeah it does seem pretty neat. I have to play with it a bit, though. I'm not sure I totally understand it. Like do I input my trailer length? Length from hitch to wheels? Indicate single axle or dual? You'd think it would need a lot of info to get everything right, but I'm sure Ford has it figured it out. I'll let you know.

I can see a bunch of people staring at the little screen and turning the knob not even watching the front end of the truck as it sideswipes other vehicles or trees.

Yeah, no doubt. Plus, you'll still need a spotter so what exactly is it solving? It's not like it can magically see through your trailer to make sure nothing is behind you. The more I think about it, the less I get it. I'll have to check it out.

I'll try it then I'll let my wife try it. She's never backed up a trailer so maybe it's more geared toward people like her, but even then, I'd rather her be looking in her mirror at a spotter than at a screen on her dash.

Soon I'll have answers.

An article about how Ford's system works. Sounds like you have a good idea of how it works already Sliver.

Just purchased a new truck yesterday. Picking it up on the weekend. Does anyone know of a good priced aftermarket place to get 3M protection put on a vehicle. These guys want $1000 almost to put 3M on and that seems somewhat high

I know a guy who says Shaw GMC does a really good after market spray in bed liner. I know that doesn't answer your question, but that's some advice anyway.

Would be interested in this too, in particular getting the front grill and hood done.

I've always used Shadow Tinting.

I had them put a 6" strip along the top of the windshield as well. I found that a lot of trucks take rocks up there and it rusts/bubbles quickly.

Have a brother who just got a new 16 f150. Even with his anti-sway bars he still said he had issues, the problem is those trucks are just to damn lite now if you are pulling anything that has some weight.
