I'm basing my concerns on the fact that the Flames brass themselves have called it out for the 2nd straight year. Poor conditioning or lack of willingness to commit has doomed many a prospect.
Will be interesting to see if his conditioning causes him to be sent back to junior this year.

Yeah just read Haynes' report and BT's comments certainly call out Rasmus. There isn't much sugar coating there. Not an over-reaction in my opinion - but a pretty measured but direct message to the player.
He definitely looks skinnier but you can lose weight without cardio so that doesn't say much.
How doesn't millions of dollars motivate a man to get in shape. Blows my mind.
If he doesn't come into camp looking better I'll be shocked. So much poetential.

Fair enough. Hayes' article sheds a lot more light on the situation for me as I hadn't read anything from the Flames about Rasmus prior to that.
Thankfully it seems like Treliving and the Flames are out infront of this and can hammer it home for Anderrson.
I think you turn him pro, get him around other pros (IE guys who are PAID to play hockey) and away from junior players and billets etc. and let those pros and AHL development coaches lead by example and help to hold him accountable.

If they send him back to junior because he's out of shape, they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Send him to the AHL where you can see him all the time and stay on him instead of sending him to junior where he can clearly dominate without being in shape.

They will want to set the tone that turning Pro needs to be earned. Our GM will make that clear tomorrow in his exit interview. Give him set goals to hit along with a fitness program and the expected results for start of rookie camp in Sept.
Acheive it you are heading South. Don't and you are back to Jr. It is all up to him.

In the end there is not much to take away from these camps but being in less than stellar shape two years in a row is not a good start. To be called out publicly by the GM is undoubtedly a calculated move to embarrass him into dealing with it. Last years approach seemed to be ineffective.
You would hope that Andersson does something different for the rest of the offseason.
Whether that is staying in Calgary for the rest of the Summer and training with Van Asten, signing up with a fitness coach like Gary Roberts, seeking out NHL players in Sweden and just training with them everyday, etc.
Whatever he has done in the last year doesn't appear to be enough and hopefully gets the wake up call tomorrow.
Rasmuss' conditioning is a huge issue for me. Obviously it has been identified as a weakness, and still is. And playing in high elevation, it's a bigger problem.
I'm not sure if he has signed a pro contract yet, I'm sure somebody will advise. In any event, him turning pro or earning a pro contract should be EARNED!

This is a young guy who has gotten to this point in his career because he's so talented that he doesn't even need to work on conditioning. I can guarantee you that his first week in professional hockey will hammer home the lesson Treliving is publicly giving him now. When he's got 30-year-old, 220 lb AHL journeymen coming at him on the forecheck all night long I can guarantee he'll start hitting the gym a bit harder.
I don't see any point sending him back to junior. Rasmus will be getting a contract, but perhaps Treliving is dangling the carrot and saying if he doesn't shape up he won't be getting anywhere near the rookie max salary or bonus structure he would like. In doing so BT is both posturing to save a bit of money on the ELC but also motivating (hopefully) this talented youngster to do the work he needs to do to become a useful asset on this team.
He looked great last year, then didn't have the same year at BC (though Eichel was gone). Made the WJC team but then wasn't all that great for them (though the team struggled).
I wasn't sure on him coming in. Sounds like he's still on track.
Every time I watched a BC game this past year he was so invisible it was almost like he wasn't even on the ice
