Kenney uses a lot of the same campaigning tactics as his chum Rob Anders. Unscrupulous, but effective.

Since when is grassroots support unscrupulous? Not an Anders fan (voted to remove him in the CPC election here as he was my MP), but his methods were far from unscrupulous - he was a unabashed grassroots support gatherer, who used that to cement his seat. He didn't do anything horrific in his campaigning methods (other than being Rob Anders - which is horrific - but we're debating his campaign tactics, not the man)

I didn't expect Kenney to come across so well in his speech. Granted he's not answering any tough questions but this is one hell of a good speech.

This is how I envisage Rachel Notley and her merry band of idiots reacting to this news:

Agree , I'll be honest didn't know much about him other than he was a MP out of Midnapore. I think his speech reasonates with what many people in Alberta are feeling right now.

I have a lot of respect for Kenney as an MP, we'll see how it transfers to the provincial front.
I would expect that there will be a lot of body punches directed at the NDP over the Stampede holiday.

Ha - this made me laugh. Basically it looks similar to something out of Justin Trudeau's speech

There's also this gem from last week (obvious left-leaning source but video included to confirm):
http://www.pressprogress.ca/jason_ke...ok_fashionable
Quote:
Speaking last week at a $175 per plate fundraising dinner in Calgary for Tribute to Liberty – that's the organization spearheading the controversial "Victims of Communism Memorial" in Ottawa – the staunchly conservative MP and likely candidate for the leadership of Alberta's Progressive Conservatives took some time to address an issue that's no doubt top of mind for many Canadians.
Namely, what are we to do about the "counterculture" of "bohemian" youths often seen milling about the "fashionable part of a Canadian street these days"?
You see, according to Kenney, too many kids these days are wearing t-shirts that "unconsciously" promote communism and it's high time we, as a free society, took actions to stamp out these unfashionable activities once and for all
"You know, one of the reasons from the very beginning I believe this project was necessary is because if you go to a university campus or walk down a fashionable part of a Canadian street these days, you're likely to see young people unconsciously displaying symbols associated with this ideology of violence ...
It is essential for us to ensure that those young people now and in the future understand that if they walk down the street with a Mao cap, with a red star emblazoned on their t-shirt, with an image of Che Guevara or Lenin or Karl Marx or the hammer and sickle, that this isn't some charming, sophisticated, bohemian image of counterculture ... Yes, we must stigmatize those symbols of a inhumane ideology."

Looking at those two quotes side-by-side, it is actually Kenney who comes off looking more tolerant, open-minded, and inclusive. To be fair, he was talking about someone he wants to bring on board as an ally, but...

The only real difference is the use of the word "family."

Except for a political science buffs at university who don't shower, wearing a hammer and sickle on a shirt or even the imagery behind it these days means far less than it did 50 years ago. What's considered artistic on t-shirts these days weaves in many different styles, images, and messages on them. We've become comfortably numb.
Sorry Jason, you're making mountains out of mole hills.
