				 Steinberg: Bouma on the market?

Steinberg just said he knows for a fact that the Flames were shopping Bouma at the trade deadline and the Ducks were interested

Yeah, don't trade him to the Ducks, Brad -- unless you can fleece Murray.

That's good. I think Chiasson was brought in to replace Bouma.. cheaper and hopefully we can get a 3rd round pick for Bouma.

It's silly season, but with the Flames kicking tires on Martin I can definitely see Tree trying to upgrade the bottom 6. I love Bouma as player. Who doesn't? Cap is a liability for what he brings though. His 2.2 m a year eats up 2/3 of what Martin's cap hit would be if he gets his way.
Then add the cap savings off of Raymond and I think they've covered Martin.

4th line of Martin-Stajan-Hathaway seems like it could be deadly.

I wouldn't mind if they could trade Bouma and not take $ back and then sign Martin. I'd rather have Martin at 3 then Bouma at 2.2

			My suggestion
 Bouma 1.1 retained

 For

 Hartnell 1.1 retained

Clears cap for CBJ and gets a good player on a questionable contract to Calgary

A little cap relief on the last year of Hartnell not terrible but not ideal

What would both teams retaining $1.1M accomplish?

Hartnell's contract runs 1 year longer, so in that final year, Hartnell is a little cheaper for the Flames. Retaining on Bouma allows CBJ to clear as much cap as possible. Essentially, the only retention is 1.1 mil in 18/19.

Different term, Bouma is signed through 2017-18, Hartnell a year longer(2018-19). That way in 2018-19 when Bouma is a UFA Harnell will only have a caphit of $3.65M instead of $4.75M.

I'd agree with this but how many teams would really be interested in Bouma, pretty heavy contract for a injury ridden player. Ducks may be the only real destination for him.

I thought Bouma might have been a selling point for Lucic to come to Calgary as they are best buds.
Bouma is a warrior, but he just doesn't do enough. I don't even care about his offense. If he hit as much as Martin, he'd be worth it. Plus despite being a big body, Bouma seems to lose a lot of puck battles.

I guess in a Salary Cap league you have to manage it carefully, but I still think a healthy Bouma is an important part of the team. Maybe they see a longevity issue with him or something. A healthy Bouma is built for the playoffs.

If the Flames trade Bouma its to clear up a roster spot and free up cap space not bring in a older player with a higher cap hit for longer.

It seems that Hathaway, Grant, Chiasson may make Bouma redundant.

Wonder if this might have to do with the Gaudreau, Monahan, Bouma Superbowl fiasco.
Can't get rid of #13 or #23, but Bouma might take the fall.

Good. The bottom half of the Flames' forward ranks is lined with bloated contracts and mediocrity, and not conducive to building a winning roster. Hope he turns the same kind of eye towards revamping the bottom half of the defense, while he's at it.

Now time for Treliving to step up and make a smart modest trade involving Bouma.
