It's a nice problem to have so much talent in the pipes. We almost have too much now......who would have thunk it?

Last year Jankowski was spotted at the COP rinks before prospect camp.

Ask again after development camp. If he's head and shoulders above everyone except maybe Tkachuk, then still maybe.
I'm as big a Jankowski backer as there is, but I don't know if increasing the speed of decision making is something that one can really work on in the off season. For that alone, I think he'll probably need until Christmas in Stockton.

Yes, he was really good at faceoffs in the NCAA. That is definitely a great attribute to have.
However, is it reason enough to keep him in the AHL until one of the young centers (Backlund being 27) retires? I am not sure a reasonable expectation is that Jankowski stays at center until there is room at center for him. I also don't think that he will displace an existing center on the team by playing center in the AHL. Not saying it has to happen this year, but at some point Jankowski is going to be called up and get a prolonged look, and unless there is a significant injury to one of the centers, his look will probably come on the wing.

I'm starting to think that Jankowski starts in Stockton. I also think that when he is brought up, it's for good, and the reason that would happen is if Bennett proves that he can raise his game and take over the second line, making Backlund expendable.
The moment Backlund becomes our biggest trading chip, it's nice to know that we have someone already in the system ready to take the step forward.

Not a chance Janko starts in the NHL this season. He got a cup of coffee of the minors last year and looked fairly good out there. He will play the entire season in Stockton barring a multitude of injuries in Calgary or perhaps a late season call up if we're out of the playoff hunt again.

I predict Jankowski will be the best player in training camp outside of your Gaudreaus and the like, but will be sent down due to roster spots availability.

This is what I suspect as well. I also think that when he does inevitably get a chance for the Flames this year, that he sticks and does not return to the AHL.

I think he will take Stajan's spot. We are stacked down the center so I see him starting off on the 4rth line or moving to the RW.

I think Jankowski's a long-shot to make this team this year. As for Stajan, I think he could actually play more wing than centre for this year, then they might buy him out next June, if he doesn't get taken by Vegas.

It'll all depends on how he plays on training camp. Rookies doesn't make the team or gets cut before the training camp. A couple of years ago most of the posters here thinks Gaudreau will not make the Flames lineup before the training camp started because a lot of people he is not ready yet and he was way too small. Let Jankowski show what he can do first. I am sure they will make a spot for him even if he is going to be out of position.

all the non qualifiers actually helps him to move up the depth chart in Stockton (and bumped me from a 2 to a 3), but barring unforeseen news (ie not signing Colborne, major center injuries prior to the season starting) ... i'd be stunned if he started the year in calgary
if he's brought up this year, i'd consider that progress in his development...
8 games in stockton is a pretty small sample
Once Gaudreau ripped it up in the NCAA including winning the Hobey Baker, i think a lot of posters were pretty confident that he wasn't going to be in the minors....him starting in the NHL, eating a year of his ELC, showed that management also believed that

Flames just drafted a huge obstacle for Jankowski to make the team right away. Personally I think Tkachuk likely gets a 9 game look at least and I can't see Jankowski making it in addition. Shinkaruk, Poirier, Pribyl will also be battling with Tkachuk and Jankowski for spots.
This is how I see the current lineup
Gaudreau-Monahan-?
?-Bennett-?
Bouma-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Stajan-Chiasson
I could see the Flames possibly signing Colborne and that leaves 2 spots open. They could easily be looking at bringing someone in from outside the organization to play on the top line which leaves only one spot and I see that going to Tkachuk or Shinkaruk myself.
Jankowski likely gets called up at some point though

Jankowski looked head and shoulders above almost everyone at the development camp scrimmage last year.
Now with another year of growth under his belt, I think he could have a good chance.

Who knows what the injury situation or other factors are at the beginning of the season, he's a decent candidate to force his way onto the roster with a great training camp/preseason. I wouldn't be shocked.

All I care about is Janko developing properly...
So I can watch all the Canucks fans cry tears with each passing goal coming off his stick. For all the years they downed on "the off the board reach" and the player himself.

Thanks for the reply.
Last year Jankowski had a great camp and season. At this point I think he would bring more to the table and improve his development by being on the Flames. As for Stajan, I could see him being a great role model on our AHL team now. The guy is an amazing person, but his play started to diminish. I agree that I could see him going to LV.
We might have a log jam soon for our rookies. There are 4 guys I think have a very real chance of making our roster. Jankowski, Tkachuk, Shinkaruk and Mangiapane. I have my prediction where they place in. I think the most likely would be Jankowski and Tkachuk. They fit the roles nicely. Shinkaruk could make it on the sheer fact that the Flames are weak on RW.
On an unrelated personal level, I hope we trade for Kevin Hayes. I'm hoping it comes true if I say it enough times and wish really, REALLY hard!

If the Flames trade Stajan, Jankowski has a shot.
