Agreed. Shame one of these countries will be going home in the Quarters. Italy always plays well against Germany so it should be a fun one.

I disagree with the commentators, Spain dont need an injection of 'youth and pace' they need a whole new game plan.
"Keep the ball. If you lose the ball, get it back. Hope for magic."
It doesnt work anymore, the book is out on their whole strategy and they have no alternative.

Tremendous effort and win. Italy easily had the best half dozen chances. Spain with barely a sniff for 90 minutes.

Bring on the Italians! It will take a huge effort to defeat them, as it should be. A match worthy of being a final rather than the quarterfinals

I am shocked and surprised by the quality of this Italian team - just did not think that they had these types of efforts in them.
Great game - controlled from start to finish IMO.
On to the Germans - would love to actually get them in a finals for once instead of always earlier on in tournaments.

I do like that even though one half of the bracket is stacked, it's the half that's playing Saturday/Sunday this week while the other side gets Thursday/Friday. So Germany/Italy Saturday and France/Iceland Sunday.

Even though tonight is probably very likely to be the end of the run for Iceland's Cinderella story, I just hope we don't get destroyed.

Iceland are dangerous, they've got nothing to lose, all the pressure is on England.

True but you have to admit that beating Germany in the 2006 WC Semi-Final, in which they were undefeated in that stadium (Dortmund) in front of 65,000 screaming Germans was just delicious. GROSSO!

That, and they're playing basically the Toronto Maple Leafs of international football. I always pull for England in these tourneys, and if there's one thing I've learned, nobody has mastered the art of losing in the most painful, stunning fashion quite like England.

Wow!
Perfect set piece off the throw in! Maybe England shouldn't ask teams to attack them.
