Nemisz didn't have a mean streak, he was drafted because of his leadership in the locker room and his size.
He was also not really known for his offense but more his two way play.
Not even in the same universe in terms of player type.

LThe biggest knock on Monahan at the draft was his skating. The biggest knock on Draisatl was his skating. Monahan came out and is now the 1st line centre for Calgary, and Draisatl (despite the Oiler stink) is becoming a fine player.
Tkachuk will be fine. He knows that skating is his weakess point and will work hard over the summer using a similar program that Monahan used. Skating can be corrected and improved on.
And Nemisz is not a comparable to Tkachuk at all. One was picked 6th (and could have gone higher) for a reason, the other was a late 28th pick.

Tkachuk seems like he has great personality, very likable and well spoken. Loubo was interviewing one of the other draft picks and asked him about Tkachuk and he said he was very well liked and everyone got along with him. Should be a great addition.

The thought of a Tkachuk - Bennett - Ferland line really fires me up. I think that trio would be the perfect combo of size, speed, skill and nastiness.

Please no, no more Ferland anywhere near a top two line.

I'm looking forward to him leaving running man shaped Oiler shadows on the boards in Edmonton for years to come.

I guess you can never be sure. Not sure it matters, strange you've focused in on this.

These days I think concerns with a players skating is more like he isn't fast like Pavel Bure.

Yeah, when a concern is raised about an elite prospect's skating, it isn't that the skating is bad. The concern is that the skating isn't as elite as the prospect's other skills. So the concern with Tkachuk is that his skating is 'only' above average. If his skating was poor, there's no way he would have been a top prospect in the first place.

I'm glad the Canucks passed on him for a Finnish defenceman.
From the top of my head there hasn't been many top defenceman from Finland. I wonder why that is? Either way I think there's something to that. Not many great defencemen come from Finland and I think that's not about to change with the Canucks pick. Not writing him off but I definitely wouldn't have taken him at fifth.

He can work on his skating. Elite skills and IQ is not something you can teach, and he has plenty of it.

I remember watching that draft and Tavares skating kept coming up and I thought it might be a problem but John has well for himself, top 10 in the league.

I don't think long term it works. However next year, with the Backlund/Frolik line still being our #2 that Bennet line would make a great agitator/scoring line that can also be sheltered when needed. Works short term if you ask me.
