I was at the draft. As soon as it was Columbus pick they talked to Edmonton on the phone right away. Quick conversation. Then Columbus called Calgary. Another quick conversation. Then they made the pick. Same thing happened when Vancouver was up they talked to Calgary right away before making pick. Obviously nothing came of it but it was interesting a lot of jockeying.

It would be awesome if shinkaruk, klimchuk, poirier, and/or ferland, grow into roles as top9 wingers.

Serious question here. As I haven't seen Tkachuk play and only know what people have been saying about him, on here and elsewhere, can someone tell me how he is different that Greg Nemisz, the last power forward the Flames drafted from a really good junior team? Nemisz was a monumental bust and some have said Tkachuk is over-rated because of this fact, but he seems to be described as having great hands and vision for a power guy. Anyone with insight on this?

IMO Hockey IQ. Tkachuk is a smarter player than Nemisz, he can read plays better and knows where to be.

I would say Tkachuk's greatest assets are his offensive awareness and hockey IQ. These things were Nemisz's greatest weaknesses. This is part of the reason that Tkachuk had almost twice the points per game that Nemisz had.

At the end of the day, I'd say Nemisz had more attributes that set him into checking roles. Tkachuk is an actual offensive power forward.

Edmonton = not so good

Tkachuk was highly regarded before he got to London. He out up big points with the US program as well.

Is there any video of Treliving, Conroy, Burke, Pascal, Button's reaction when Columbus made their pick?

Or when Vancouver picked the defenceman?

Tkachuk is nothing like Nemisz in that Tkachuk is good and Nemisz is bad.

Really pleased to wake up to this pick this morning. Bummed that the Oilers got one of the (perceived) top 3 and will now ruin him but you can't have everything I suppose.

We are shaping up nicely.

Oilers still need multiple defensemen, MULTIPLE. It's actually hilarious they were again forced to take BPA which was a forward. Amazing.

Haha. Since the Oilers took Poolboy and we got Tkachuk -> one thing is certain: Matthew Tkachuk will have a much better career than Puljujarvi!

It's not hard when you see someone pick up the phone and two seconds later the gm three tables over picks it up and they hang up at the same time

Watch Tkachuk play for two mins and you can see the difference. Even someone who hasn't watched hockey before would notice. Tkachuk is a stud and Nemisz was a turd.

Nemisz wasn't half as intense as Tkachuk. And even though they say Tkachuk's weakness is skating, his skating it still decent compared to Nemisz.

But there are 30 tables and probably multiple teams making calls at the same time. How can you be sure the calls weren't going on with other tables that you weren't watching?
