I know that's the rumour. Given the caliber of player supposidly available at that spot, it's likely boarderline close, but I think the yard stick gets pushed further back given the fact the team that owns that pick is the Oilers and that we know making that trade would help a significant rival who directly competes with us for playoff spots much better.
I always say this, but I don't know much about prospects, but given what we've heard about #3 in this draft and our needs, would you guys say pulling the trigger for 3rd overall pick for Hamilton a no brainer?
I guess I still can't get over giving up a potential Number #1 D-man for anything other than a potential #1 centre so I'm not sure I'm there. But maybe I over value Center and D, or maybe I'm too optimistic on Douggie.

Exactly. Just people taking the "Calgary looking at another top 10 pick" rumour, adding it to the "Edmonton in talks to get a D" rumour, and going insane. It was just speculation from the start. Almost makes me sad that the most unlikely thing to happen today is the one getting discussed the most. Can we talk about Bishop some more instead?

It doesn't make sense for the Flames to trade Hamilton. It would go against all the strategy that Treliving said were the reasons he was willing to give up the Flames 1st rounder last year for Hamilton.
Hamilton just got better and better for the Flames as the season went on. He is part of this young core the Flames have built.
I assume this story is media driven or rumour mongers.

Yeah, I really can't see any of the top 3 D or top 3 FWDs moving for calgary. Anyone else is pretty much fair game.
I think we need to have some faith in our prospects and not be breaking up the other good parts of the team to fit in an good, yet overpriced goaltender.

The likelihood that the Blue Jackets will draft Puljujarvi. This number has been steadily dropping for Portzline

If the Flames traded Hamilton for the 4th pick it is definitely selling high. No way would a team trade the 4th pick for the 15th, 45th, and 52nd picks. The problem is the Flames have some great blueline depth but those players are 2-3 years away.
Again I see this rumor happening for a couple reasons. The Flames really like Tkachuk and thought they would get him at 6 but now know they need 4 to get him. The cap space issue. Perhaps they really need to shed a big contract and Dougie is the only guy they are willing to consider moving from the core? If they trade for Bishop they need to be able to sign him to a 4-5 year deal at least $7M per

There comes a point where you have to keep your good players and not just keep trading them for picks upon picks just to "sell high". You sold assets to get a guy like Hamilton so that he could play on your team for a decade, not so you can flip him for picks where the players may not end up any better than him. We need to win hockey games, not trades.

There's cheaper ways to get Nylander and Keller. Nylander almost guaranteed to be there 6th overall. Package a couple 2nds for a late 1st and Keller might still be there.

Neither..
If we trade Hamilton, better be more than Subban's perceived value, no way in hell I want an 18 year old defenseman for Hamilton to pick up Bishop.. just no, I am more content with trading away Gio

Exactly, there's a reason they flipped those for a player and not to just move up for a better pick last year. Especially when a trade for a guy like Hamilton is so rare to begin with

I'm looking at the thread titles and while its great to talk about the flames, in some of these rumored deals, i feel very underwhelmed. Hamilton for 4th pick? Pitt wants 6th pick for Fleury? Flames interested in Lucic ( it would cost a lot)?
I'm now at the stage where i want the flames to make all of their picks and just sign Reimer as a UFA. For the record Reimer was my plan C or D for a goalie.
Edit: throw in Wideman traded and i would be very happy.

I think that's what will happen if those prices don't move, and I'm fine with that

The issue I have is by switching Hamilton for a dman at six is you are giving up a few years of development time before that dman at six is at the level Hamilton is at. Is that worth the price to get to 4?
