They should call their arena "The House", that's actually a great idea IMO. I still think they need to go old school and go with something like the Mob or gangsters or something along those lines. If they go animal themed, I think scorpions would win....it's too bad because if they joined the league in a couple of years after Pheonix leaves, they could be the coyotes.

How about the Vegas Vipers? It sounds good (the alliteration helps).

The CFL team failed in Vegas but I always thought the name was great. Las Vegas Posse.

Hahah no.
It doesn't in with the required "s" and it sounds too similar to a vulgar term for a female body part. Rival fans would have a hey day with that name.

Come on. Most NHL teams struggle to ice "good" second and third defense pairings, and I seriously doubt that there are many teams whose collection of bottom three defensemen looks much better.

Up front it’s a similar story. A team with Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Frolik and Backlund has a tremendous foundation. However, when Colborne is your sixth best forward, you may just find yourself missing the playoffs by ten points like the Flames did this season.
|
Joe Colborne outscored Mikael Granlund, Gustav Nyquist, Nino Niederreiter, Chris Kreider and Chris Kunitz in fewer games played last season. If he is the team's sixth best forward, then that should be good enough to at least make the playoffs. If they miss the post-season by 10 points it is likely because of their inability to keep goals against down, which has been a problem for the last two seasons.

Confirmed: The Las Vegas NHL team has surpassed 15,000 deposits on season tickets for 2017-18 and headed toward 16,000. #VegasGotHockey

The new arena will sit 17,368 for hockey, according to Wikipedia.

Never really thought about San Diego but they have a developer with deep pockets involved. It's more of a hockey town than you would think too. They were 2nd in AHL attendance and I listen to their sports radio a lot (die-hard Chargers fan) and they talk a ton of hockey.

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those tickets are being bought only to be sold individually to Vegas visitors.

If no one steps up to claim those extra protection slots, the Flames will be in a position to add guys via trade since teams would rather get something for these guys than lose one to Vegas for nothing.

Out of all the names that aren't obvious jokes, I like Aces the best too. Mavericks would be alright, but the Dallas NBA team owns the recognition for that one.
I have a feeling they are going to want to downplay the gambling theme though and go with something like Rattlers or Scorpions.

Any interest in doing a mock expansion?
Get few users to do the protection list for each team and then we can vote on who Vegas will select. By the time free agency maybe we have enough users to take part in this?

We should probably wait until about mid-July before starting any mock expansion drafts just because there is still too much uncertainty over which players will be where and what their contracts will look like.
By mid-July, most of the big name UFAs will be signed, so we'll have more clarity.

That works. Hopefully Flames have another forward they're 100% sure about keeping next year by then.
