Recommend a Tux/Suit Rental shop - Calgary (Wedding)
Searched and have found nothing but old posts (2011-13) in regards to the "best" place to find said suit or tux for a wedding.
Everything I read seems to be a few years old and or hit & miss in terms of what people like/had good experiences with so I'm basically torn on which way to go.
- Moores
- Tip Top
- Calgary Bridal
- Ed Williams (not sure they rent)
- Black & Lee
Going to be 4/5 in total and I've already got all the sizes ready to go, just want to make sure I'm going with something decent as I don't want the guys to be swimming in these things as some previous threads have indicated at Moore's.
So, anyone recent (last few months or so) go through with this? Please share your thoughts, experience and cost if applicable.
Cheers

Moores sucks, paid like $250 or so for our rentals for my best buddies wedding and they were garbage. We all could have gone somewhere else and bought them for the same price or cheaper and had them actually fit, but his wife was anal about it.

I went through this last year. Went to all the suit rental places and they were all garbage, unfortunately. Ended up buying new suits instead for not much more than the cost of a rental.
Most people already have a go-to suit and aren't interested in buying another one, so I just went to places like Le Chateau, H&M, Topman (The Bay), Express, RW Co.,etc.
Those places have lots of sales and have lots of nice modern trendy ones which fit the bill and looked 1000x better than the rentals.

Had some success with Derks Formals previously, they're on Macloud just south of Glenmore.

I just went through this as my wedding is in July. The suits you can get for around the rental pricing are okay, but none were really over the top.
I went to Moores and everything was baggy as hell. I had success as the bridal centre ( http://www.bridalcentre.com/) as I like my pants a bit more slim fitting. Take a look.

Makes sense to actually buy a tux, rather than rent one every couple of years.

True, if you stay the same size over the next several years. Unless you buy a suit that's looser fitting you'll likely grow out of the shape in a few years..imo

Ya rentals are not the way to go anymore. They have to fit everyone from big to small so very rarely will they fit perfectly. Plus they raised the prices a couple years ago in order to help the retailers actually make something off renting, but with the cost and quality now of some offshore suits it doesn't make much sense cost wise.
If you are dead set on renting from a retailers perspective find somewhere that deals with black and lee. They are the easiest to deal with. Prices are reasonable for rentals and colour selection of vest is not usually a problem. Derks would be the next best option as they ship out of Edmonton any have a little better selection for more modern styles, they do have a tendency to mess up orders but your retailer should be on the ball and catch it in time.

We rented dress shirts from Moore's for a wedding a few weeks ago. Even though we all gave them proper measurements and got the fitted shirts, they were huge, tent-like things. Like something out of the 80s designed for obese men. Cannot recommend.

Agreed. All us groomsmen in my buddy's wedding had to rent from there a few years ago. They were easily the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. The suit was basically made of kevlar, which sucked for a June wedding in the hot Okanagan sun. However, it did save me during picture time. We were doing photos in Oliver at one of those old barns, because apparently every wedding needs this shot, even though no one has ever been to a barn or farm. Anywho, during the pictures I fell through the floorboards, and dropped about two feet down. There were rusty nails everywhere. The pants were so thick, that they stopped the nails from going into my legs. If I had my own suit on it would have shredded my pants, and scraped up my leg pretty badly.

Rentals are gross. Expensive, fit poorly, and are often made of polyester blends so you will sweat your nuts off all day.
Also, tuxes are actually not suitable for a daytime wedding. Just have your groomsmen wear suits in an approximate matching colour - charcoal, grey or navy - and then just wearing matching ties.
It's cheaper in the long-run because you can re-use your wedding suit in your day-to-day business.

I ran out of thanks, but this is a hilarious, great, and ironic endorsement of Moore's rentals. They should put this in an ad.

Thanks for the reply's guys, Squiggs I died when I read that. So much win I cant even begin to describe how bad my sides left orbit.
Sounds like buying may be the way to go, I guess I'm just torn having to get everyone to drop 450 bucks to get a suit fitted for my wedding, mind you they'll get to keep it for life but yea.

Ask people what they currently have, maybe most people already have somewhat matching suits. Then you just need to buy ties, hankies and possibly shirts.

As I said, light grey, charcoal, and navy all work together. Match white shirts, white pocket squares, and get something simple for the tie - perhaps navy grenadine.

Simple? The tie is where you express yourself! Flying pigs or hula girls or something.

Well, if you want to do that, that's cool.
I really don't feel the groom and his party have any business upstaging the bride on her day. So keep it simple, cool cats.

Get everyone to sign up for Banana Republic email thing... they always have huge sales (40% off) so you can pickup a suit for the same price as a rental.

After it happened I was pretty embarrassed for a few seconds, as I knew if I saw one of the other guys dropping two feet through the floor, I'd have laughed. Who falls through a floor? When I looked up there was pretty big concern from everyone. I wish I would have made a joke such as, "This is why I wanted to go before the bridesmaids had weakened the floor". I was the lightest guy there, so I think it would have gone over well, assuming the bridesmaids didn't beat me.
