Reports out of Canada have a deal in the works for the #Lightning to trade Ben Bishop to the Calgary Flames.

This is the 'reports out of Canada guy'.

My point about the jersey number is that I can't think of a single legitimate reason for Bishop to choose Calgary for next season over Tampa. Vezina nominated goalies are not concerned about losing their spots or not getting huge deals.

a) the #1 spot in Tampa was firmly his this season
b) he has zero concern about the expansion draft. That's Yzerman's problem

So unless his wife is from Calgary or something I am missing... I would expect MAF to be the one waiving

How about Tampa coming to him and saying they're going with Vasilevskiy as a starter next season and want to move him for cap reasons?

That's a pretty legitimate reason in and of itself that's very possible if Tampa needs to restructure their cap.

Because Bishop is a UFA after this season, he needs to play. Plain and simple.

Lastly, this rumour may be bunk, but that in no way means Tamps isn't looking to move Bishop. They may very well be looking to move him to retain Stamkos.

At which point I'm sure Bishop would call the worst bluff attempt ever made. A vezina nominated goalie with a price tag of 6 million will not be sitting on Tampa's bench this season.

If Stamkos was willing to sign, he would have by now

Maybe but what player wants to split time with another goalie on a team that clearly has asked you to leave? Players are pretty damn proud guys, they don't want to be where they are not wanted or feel they are not wanted.

Don't mind Bishop but don't want to see us giving up anything higher than a 2nd or prospect. 1st is out of the question this year and I wouldn't risk it next year either. Way too much uncertainty with Bishop. He probably is the best realistic option out there but price has to be right. If not I rather go after Reimer for nothing.

You have no idea on this. There are 100 different things that could be going on behind the scenes, and his returning there can't be ruled out at this point at all.

Unverified rumors from unreliable sources. All the same.

Except it isn't a bluff if it's what Tampa has decided to do for cap reasons.

You're the one who said you couldn't see any reason Bishop would be looking to move on from Tampa, and I just gave you a very plausible one.

It can't be ruled out, but let's be honest about the chances.

I'd say the chances could fluctuate depending on any roster moves Tampa makes within the next ten days, which at this time of year could be a few different scenarios that could impact their cap situation.

Bottom line, ruling it out like it's a certainty is extremely premature.

This is exactly why Friedman isn't on Fan960 any more. Some "dim bulbs" completely take a point out of context for their own gain, and cause more work and questions. This is the last thing we need. We need to hold the "dim bulbs" accountable, not the people providing actual legitimate insights.

Friedman isn't on the Fan anymore because he's a whiny bitch.

"Wah! people are talking about what I talk about on the radio and making up rumours!"

... big deal. You work in media dude, be happy people are discussing you. You're a hockey reporter, not Walter Kronkite, lighten up.

He's just grasping at straws to argue something that isnt there.

GJG has crapped on me for speculating something and then continues on like this over something that has been debunked..

Hypocrite.

Not really sure what your issue is but this is pretty simple:

You seem to think this topic should't be discussed because the rumour that started it is bunk.

The very simple fact of the matter is that Tampa could still be looking to move Bishop for several reasons that make sense regardless of this particular rumour being unsubstantial.

If it hurts your feelings in some way you can very easily avoid the thread and the discussion.

When people completely misrepresent what was said, this is a direct hit to their reputation. I don't blame them at all for being upset.
