If Croatia is thrown out, at the very least it would teach other teams' fans a lesson. Namely, don't be a doosh in the stands.
All these incidents raise questions of the effectiveness of French security though.

I think it goes far beyond club rivalry.
I feel it's a much, much deeper problem. Otherwise, the issue would have fixed by now.
Of course, I'm not just talking about this particular incident but tye whole fans/hooligans issue in Serbia/Croatia.
But what's more concerning is the lack of ambition from our governments to stand up to these hooligans once and for all.

Spain clearly played possum against Georgia. Looking like the favorites yet again.

I'm keeping my enthusiasm in check over Spain tuning up a pretty listless Turkey.
One of the things I was really looking forward to in this tournament was fewer minnows, but we havent really gotten that.

Spain bossing midfield and Iniesta's the primary reason. One of my favorite players to watch.

Annoying that I can't watch both Russia/Wales and Slovakia/England on Monday. Thanks for that "contribution" to international soccer, Italy.

Can you imagine the sheer volume of Dad jokes that would come out of a Hungary-Turkey quarter final match?
I shudder thinking of it.

I disagree. I think theres a limit to what you can do in terms of in-stadium security. They're stewards, they arent law enforcement and they're probably outnumbered a couple hundred to one.
Granted, I will admit that it should be obvious if someone is sneaking road flares into the grounds, security really should be on top of that.

i thought it was airport security going into these stadiums though, metal detectors and passing through multiple gates.
Polak, let us know how many times you get frisked going into the stadium.

That may be the point. There is only so much you can as security guards but are the French stadium security doing all that they can do?
Additionally, it doesn't have to be just stadium security. When I was in Brazil in 2014 they most definitely had Federal Police outside the ground and I'm pretty sure they were inside as well.

Well its Hungary vs Iceland, oh man this country will lose its collective mind if we win. So nervous, almost as much as Canada going for gold in the olympics.

A little off-topic, but the Irish fans at RWC were just incredible in that same spirit. Just generally cheering, singing and happy to be there.

22 years ago today since the Loughinisland massacre. A bunch of Irish fans sitting in a pub minding their own business watching Ireland play Italy in the 1994 WC when a now proven police collusion group of sectarian gunmen entered and shot the place up killing six.

That is a penalty against Long and then of course Belgium counter and score. Brutal.
