The only way I see the city being able to avoid or minimize their infrastructure costs is if the Flames somehow build elsewhere near the the Saddledome. The Flames likely do not want to build on Stampede owned land and continue to be a tennant, so that poses another problem unless they can convince the Stampede board to sell the land which I can't see the Stampede board ever agreeing to sell. Which brings me to another question has Ken King resolved anything of substance in his new role with the Flames??
He commented 2 years ago something similar to this... his primary new function is securing a new arena and the business development that would compliment it.
A plan that most Calgarians viewed as unfavorable for several different reasons a year ago, is now on the verge of being shelved.
So what has KKing really accomplished in what is deemed his primary function??
Why 50%?

I don't see how plan B isn't a failure before it even starts. Foothills is a terrible spot for the field house. Unless things have changed dramatically in the last few years, the access and parking situation would be a nightmare. Using Norma Bush and Father David Bauer was a gong show when I lived in Calgary. Foothills Athletic park was worse. Putting a big facility there would be a mistake. Also, dropping it in one corner of the city is going to going to make accessibility difficult for the rest. A central location is more desirable IMO, especially if it is on the LRT line.

Renovating McMahon would be a mistake as well. It would cost more to renovate than rebuild, especially if they want to modernize the place. Did I also mention what a gong show that place is trying to access on game day? Horrible location that really became obsolete a couple decades ago. They would really have to tear the place down to put in a decent stadium.

I can understand idea of the east villiage, but I think there are drawbacks there as well. The idea of being "walking distance" to the LRT is not overly desirable IMO. Not when you can build right on the line and have the ability to be dropped right at the facility. I hated the walk from the Dome to the LRT in the dead of winter, freezing my arse off getting to the LRT station and then waiting in the cold. Much better to have a nice warm concourse to wait in with signs that tell you when the next train is due on the platform.

You do know the difference between moot and mute, right? I figured most people were just being funny when they got that wrong.

mute - Refraining from producing speech or vocal sound.
You want to use "moot point".

Actually lol no I didn't thanks for the correction. I guess it is a good thing usually I say moot point in day to day instead of spelling it

Jayswin, if you point doesn't produce a sound then it is effectively moot so your argument is just making a mute point anyways.

Yeah plan B is bad for plenty of reasons. I live in the NW so it would be good for me but I would feel pretty bad for the people in the SW and SE.

Honestly getting from most of the NE to that area of the NW is just as bad

Actually, the New Green-line LRT alignment will run right along the Railtown lands (or at worst, be a block away), so for many, there will be no long-walk required. Plus you have walking-distance access to the other 2 lines.

So basically every LRT line will be available to fans, and one will be arena-adjacent. You can't say that with West Village...or any other option really.

this plan B for McMahon still doesn't address that the nw NIMBYs effectively killed off any chance of an outdoor concert

Point being, who the #### wants to walk a block and wait on a freezing platform in -20 temperatures? Unless you like icy sidewalks weaving through traffic coming out of the arena, I prefer the facility to be right on the line.

When is the green line suppose to start being built? I could see that being a possibility, but there is a bunch of land that would have to be bough up as well, because the land that is currently vacant isn't big enough for a new arena. They would have to buy the land between 11th and 12th avenues then close 11th and use all of that space. Not sure that is any more viable than the west village.

Or a handicapped person. Or an old person. Or a person with serious health problems.

But hey, thanks for throwing all those people under the bus. They weren't about to throw themselves, after all.

Is that the best you got Senator? Pretty ####ing the weak. Also pretty myopic. Given a choice you would rather walk through the cold and freeze your ass off instead of having a refreshing brew while waiting for the train, then boarding without going outside for more than 20 seconds? If you say you choose the former, you're a liar. I don't know anyone that would take that choice.

The green line is supposed to start in 2018, I believe. So well before an arena. Remington owns the railtown lands, and there is enough space in the lands they own to build it.
