I guess I may be too young for this, but who the hell is Sarge?

Are you implying that not only have Brodie's first 3 seasons been better than Phaneuf's, but that it's not even close?

I love Brodie's game, but this poll is not doing Phaneuf justice. He was incredible for this team those first 3 seasons. Calder Trophy runner-up to Crosby & Ovechkin in his rookie year, nominated for the Norris Trophy in his sophomore, voted hardest hitter in the league by the players, and averaged 54 points a season.

While Brodie definitely has the edge in defensive coverage, his physical game is nowhere close to what Phaneuf's was, and Brodie's best offensive season thus far still lags behind Phaneuf's worst over that period.

Brodie will pass them eventually, but Phaneuf should be the clear choice now.
Sarge was a great soldier, but he was the #3 or #4 man for his 3 seasons here. I'd vote Phaneuf, Brodie and Macoun all ahead of him.

In one season with the Flames he was recognized as one of the top four defencemen in the NHL. He was a #3 or #4 on the Flames because the Flames blueline also had two of the top d-men in the league. The cap wouldn't allow you to put that blueline together today.
