Highly recommend these guys if you'd prefer for your dog to be in a home, and not in a kennel while you are away.
We had out dog our on their acreage daily when we lived in Airdrie, and will always use them for overnight care when we vacation.

We take our big boy to Dawg Tired. It's basically a couple up in Iricana or somewhere nearby who invite dogs into their home to live with them. And if you live near their office on 14th St & 26th Ave they will even pick up and drop off. I definitely recommend it.

Stonehaven Kennel west of spruce meadows (http://www.stonehavenkennel.ca) take great care of our dogs. Lots of room and play time. They also post pictures daily so you can see how they're doing.

I used to use dogaholics, it was near the airport because I used to travel a lot so it was convenient. My dog always seemed to love going there. It is a big warehouse, they have an outdoor run, pool and other fun things. They separate the big dogs from the little ones and each group has separate play times outdoors. They have kennels for sleeping at night, so everyone is separated but that is pretty normal for dogs to be in their own kennel at night.

Anyway, they are reasonable and you don't have to drive out of the city to drop them off. They are always posting videos on facebook so you can sometimes catch your dog playing on there. They are pretty active in the dog community in Calgary too, which is appealing to me.

Consider them, it is a great place for a short term stay. The longest I have left my dog there is 1 week and like I said she loved it.

I don't know what the website is but there is a website where you can find private homes that will take in your dogs. My brother is on there and they have taken a number of dogs over the last year or two.

We always take ours to the Springbank Pet Resort. Not cheap, but the extra money is worth my trust in my opinion. Our dog seems to love it there. Runs right in, and doesn't even look back at us. Make sure to pay for the playtime, otherwise they are just boarded and taken out side a couple times a day to use the bathroom.

What do you guys pay for these places? Just wondering what the going rates are for the various places.

We have a short trip to the States coming up and are considering bringing our dog. The hotels we have booked allow dogs for an extra charge, but depending on the price we may look at boarding as well.

I believe at Springbank it's $37 a day plus playtime ($for half a day or 1$2 for a whole day). Our dog is pretty energetic so we do the whole day, but I would bet most would be tired out after half.

Definitely not cheap.

One thing to be careful about when travelling with a dog is often hotels will say they are pet friendly, but they are not. Pet Friendly in the hotel industry simply means they will let a dog stay in the room with you, but you are not allowed to leave the dog unattended in the room. If you do, you are sometimes subject to a fine or they will ask you to leave the hotel.

We found that out the hard way at a wedding in Cranbrook last year. Luckily the reception was in the same building because my wife and I had to take turns on dog watch the room. When we checked in they flat out told us that we couldn't leave the dog alone and if we were caught we'd be getting a $500 fine.
