Is it really an attack ad when it's 100% what happened? They didn't even need to take anything out of context.

That's a pretty mild "attack" ad.

This #### is going to get ruthless. Unless the "Trump is a Clinton plant" conspiracy is true, this is going to probably be the nastiest election of the television age.

To Bernie not ending the campaign....The dems are taking a pretty soft stance on him today in "letting him make the decision on his own time" type of thing. Part of that is to not annoy his support base but it is also likely because they know he is likely to step down if discussions with Clinton go OK. There is one final primary (in D.C. no less). Let the campaign run out the clock and then look to see Sanders concede on that night or next morning and the Dems will move on. He's already laid out the start of that framework by saying he'll work with Clinton following the meeting Obama. IMO, that's only a promise you make at that point if you recognize it has come to an end and you are essentially entering the final stages of negotiation with the Clinton camp.

They aren't a party that in the end is nearly as fractured as the GOP. The GOP pretends they've made up and then immediately fractures appear as soon as Drumpf says something stupid (which honestly is a good thing...it indicates that the GOP may actually have some decent people in it).

Yeah, that ad I think misses the point entirely. Everyone who's going to be convinced that he's a buffoon and an a-hole already thinks so. Same goes for racist and sexist.

They need to stop with the moralistic "this is a bad person" arguments and start on "the prospect of this person making important decisions about things like nuclear policy is goddamn terrifying".

Technically, they're millions in debt to the Iron Bank of Braavos.

It's amazing how tone deaf these Democratic ads are. One of the reasons that Trump is enjoy so much support is the fact that people are fed up with political correctness and here they are highlighting this to the electorate. People already know that he says mean and outrageous things and don't seem to care.

Why is Trump gaining so much support? It's because he is seen as someone who is not connected to the party establishment. The more he is is criticized by the Republican establishment, the more support he gains. Why the Democrats would run an ad showing Republican officials criticizing him is beyond me.

Because the goal is to swing moderate Republicans to Hillary, not convert his zealots.

That tactic didn't even work in the Republican primary, though. Look at the responses to this online. Basically they're "you forgot to call him a homophobe and sexist, lol". They don't care. It doesn't work.

Crazy Trump supporters aren't going to be converted, you're right. But if you want to win the non-crazy people, you need to emphasize that this isn't funny. He's not just a ridiculous buffoon. If Trump is voted into office, he will make decisions leading to dead Americans, not to mention dead people all over the world. That is not a joke. He isn't in any way suited to making decisions of that type. People need to stop laughing and start noticing that just because this generation of Americans hasn't faced an existential threat doesn't mean that it's impossible that they will in the next four years.

It's not just a cultural revolution or tearing down the establishment or nuking a corrupt political system. The stakes are higher than that. A grown-up needs to be in charge, even if you don't happen to like her.

They don't have to do anything with Trump. Sit back, be patient, and he will more or less offend every single group in America except "non-college whites". The fact he's running against a woman will cripple him, his misogyny is uncontrollable at the best of times so when Hillary and Warren and others keep destroying him he will obviously lose his mind. There's almost no point to attacking him, he will very likely self destruct. Just give the man enough rope basically.

You've been beating self-destruct this drum for a while, but it's yet to come to fruition.

We'll see if the polling trend of Trump at sub-40% holds. Because in US politics, sustained poll numbers in the 30s is about as awful as any major party nominee could ever expect. He had significant momentum in the polls all through April and May, and it looks like his Mexican judge meltdown may have destroyed all of that. Maybe he never self destructs in the total sense, but frequent self-inflicted wounds will prevent him from sustaining any momentum he gains.

Because the Republican Primary electorate is not the general election electorate. His dips into the insanity pool were acceptable if not outright embraced in the GOP Primary. It'll never fly with the general electorate. And the woman thing can't be overlooked. He'll call her ugly and make other unseemly insinuations in the next 5 months, and by election day he could be the first major party nominee with negative emotional maturity. Nevermind all the fraudster stuff that'll be coming out that will likely drive him off the deep end.

I think it appeals to the emotions which is what Trump does. Attacking him on a point by point basis won't appeal to his supporters. Trump eats that up as a badge of honour.

As he says "I can stand in the middle of 5th Ave. and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK!"

I think over the next week going into the DC primary after which Bernie will endorse fully what happens to the Hillary poll numbers.

They will definitely go up as Bernie supporters fall in line but the question is how much? Can she out perform trumps boost from his republican consolidation?

This sentence has set the new world record for highest concentration of left wingyness per syllable.

Was having a discussion on FB last night about how the ground surge of frustration on the left started in 2008 with Obama. Back then we all thought he would be a progressive guy and he inspired a movement that defeated the establishment, and big favorite before the primaries, Hillary Clinton.

The progressives feel pretty dissapointed with the Obama years, so now that its establishment again vs a true progressive it became a real groundswell of progressives and of course lots of independents.

If social media in 2008 was like it was today, that campaign would have been ugly to watch. Should be interesting to see what happens with all those who feel again left out by the democratic party, this is a significant number and has some parallels to the tea party movement.

At this point I would love to see the US move to a 4 party system, clearly both parties need to split and voter interest and turnout is brutally low in the US, I think at least having the 4 parties would help people get excited about politics again and allow an anti-establishment congress to grow.
