I guess you could argue Germany and Japan, but it certainly took a while for the recovery to happen, and they didn't volunteer to undergo the treatment.

My issue is that if your argument is that the system is so broken that it cannot be easily fixed, and the only thing to do is just blow it up and see what rises from the ashes... it seems to me that literally any other means you could use to ameliorate the problem is a better option. The only situation where that makes sense is if the whole structure is completely irredeemable, and unfixable. Some people surely think that's the case, but it's an extremely cynical outlook, and I don't think warranted.

Thankfully only one more day, though his supporters I imagine will still be claiming conspiracy in 2018.

Why would Bernie be in it in 2020? We all know Trump is going to be rolling into his second term by that point after his thrashing of Kanye West in the 2020 general.

Trump a racist, say it ain't so.

Quote:
Trump on Friday vociferously -- and repeatedly -- defended his claims that a judge overseeing a lawsuit against Trump University is biased because of his Mexican heritage, pushing back against criticism that his objections are racist.

At the end of a lengthy exchange, Tapper asked: "If you are saying he cannot do his job because of his race, is that not the definition of racism?"
"No, I don't think so at all," Trump said.

"Obama said in his speech that Muslims are our sports heroes. What sport is he talking about, and who? Is Obama profiling" (December 6)

Trump knows the best racism. The very best racism. He knows all the great racisms so don't worry about that.

I'm just waiting for him to say something completely stupid and disrespectful towards Ali.

It's all but inevitable.

K it's happening. He's going full meltdown.

Quote:
An embattled Donald Trump urgently rallied his most visible supporters to defend his attacks on a federal judge's Mexican ancestry during a conference call on Monday in which he ordered them to question the judge's credibility and impugn reporters as racists.
"We will overcome," Trump said, according to two supporters who were on the call and requested anonymity to share their notes with Bloomberg Politics. "And I’ve always won and I’m going to continue to win. And that’s the way it is."

So he's either intentionally trying to get himself out of the race by acting unhinged and like his campaign is in total disarray, or he's legitimately going through a mental (possibly psychotic) breakdown. Sad (and insane)! And that last paragraph....poetry.

I wish he would wait to do this until after he's the official nominee

I wonder what would happen if he were to legitimately, completely combust before the convention. The whole house of cards tumbles and for once, it's too much, and a significant chunk of his supporters, all but the really die-hard ones, retreat to their dens. What the heck do the Republicans do? Do they nominate someone else, and would that be enough to result in riots from whatever support Trump still has?

It won't happen, I'm sure, because there's no reason to think he won't be just as immune to these matters as he has been to everything else. But interesting to think about.

We still have what, 8 weeks to go before the convention? The media has finally stopped kissing Trump's ass non-stop and are finally taking him to task. I could absolutely see him straight up dropping out after another month of this, I really doubt he could handle the remaining 5 months (sigh...) of this campaign if he's being pressed consistently. Things were easy for him when he had carte blanche to say whatever. Not so much anymore.

It'll be the Tax returns, he'll quit over the tax returns, that's his exit strategy all along I think.

it'd be a little silly to quit now. I mean he literally just has to shut up and he'll have a good chance at being president. I mean it, if he just went completely silent and released posters and ads with just his smiling face that said 'make America great again', and he releases no other info, and he enters debates and just remains silent and doesn't say anything, he'd be better off.

Staying silent is the secondest hardest thing for Trump to do. He loves the sound of his own voice. The hardest thing for him to do is not say racist things.

I think once the media gets around to the mob stuff is when he'll be in trouble. The tax returns will just confirm what most people think, that he isn't as rich as he claims so the damage is limited except to his ego. The mob stuff could go any number of ways. Plus there's potential for corruption with Trump U lawsuits and possible payoffs to state AGs. He will be teeing off on the media nonstop, and the media will still use him for the remaining ratings money they can tap out of him.

Plus expecting Trump to go media silent for 5 more months is a task of monumental proportions only equaled by Noah getting two of every animal. 5 days would be impressive, 5 hours is a start.
