I'd be interested to hear what the NYI might be looking to do with Ryan Strome. He seems to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff there but he clearly has game and plenty of upside as a 22 yr old that already has a 50pt season under his belt. Seems to me like he is the right age and skill level to slide in with our young top 6 group and flourish.
I think he could be had for a reasonable amount and certainly less than they would have asked for him last off season.

Strome is a very interesting option as he is a decent sized right shot that is from the same draft as Gaudreau and Hamilton. I wonder what the cost would be?
 To CGY: Stome+18th OA
 To NYI: Bouma + 6OA?

Then hopefully the Flames could package a 2nd and 18 to move back up to 9-12 range?

Duchene was publically blasted by Roy for celebrating his first 30 goal season in a blowout loss late in the year. He was a frequent member of the rumor mill early last season. The Avs need to pay MacKinnon this summer and are paying Soderberg $4.5M for the third line. Then their is the Barrie situation that comes into play.

I like the layout of that trade.

To NYI: Colborne RFA rights + Bouma + 6th
To CGY: Strome + 18th

The Avs, like the Ducks, the Sens, etc., are in internal budget team. The payroll allowed by their owners is considerably less than the cap.

I would rather give you a reason why he might be in the block rather than answer your black and white question in efforts to dispute the notion that Duchene might not be wanted or want to be in Colorado

			lol some peoples kids
"Hamiltonesque" trade = a pie in the sky trade that nobody really saw coming for a player that nobody would have thought was available

Then someone brings up a player that fits the above description in a thread asking for people to bring up players that fit the above description and yet some struggler just has to jump in and say "hang on here, no way, not gonna happen!"

My out of left field trade that no one saw coming:
Nichushkin for Poirier and one of our later 2nd rounders.

Boom, we all marvel at Treliving's wizardry once again.

I could be wrong, but the only sort of similar trade that I can remember was Thornton to Sharks - these sort of trades dont happen often, nor should you expect them to

Off the top of my head...

The Seguin trade was not really expected.

Cory Schneider wasn't expected, everybody thought Luongo would be the one to go.

Mike Richards and Jeff Carter being traded a year after going to the Cup finals was not expected.

Definitely rare, but they do happen.

Hopefully expansion makes things extra unpredictable.

Seguin stock had dropped, Schnieder wasn't exactly proven, Richard and Carter always have had 'the stigma' following them...
But OK, I took 'hamilton-esqe' to mean more like Thornton, where no one really knew he was on the market and basically took the first offer they got.

If that's how you define it, then I think the Phaneuf deal by the Flames qualifies. His perceived value at the time was much higher, and it caught everyone by surprise.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a highway robbery trade. I also wad curious about any players we can get that match the age group of our current young guys that would make sense in acquiring instead of using our first .

that is an overpay at this point

either send them their 2nd back or just Poirier, IMO
