What is a fair Joe Colborne contract?
Based on the STH info leaked out last night, it sounds like Burke expects Colborne could ask for $3.6 million in arbitration.
Burke also pointed out that Colborne collected most of his points in March.
The walk away for arbitration awards is $3,906,595. Meaning that any contract awarded for less than $3,906,595 the team is unable to walk away from.
What number are you comfortable with for Colborne?

2 year, $2.75 million per at most.
If Colbourne is really going to get awarded $3.6 million, wouldnt that make him untradeable? I can't see a team paying him that.

Anything more than 2.5 and we will regret it. He was pretty terrible when the games mattered and frankly, if he isn't passed by someone for a top 6 spot in the immediate future this team will be spinning it's wheels in the basement for a while.

2-2.5. Career year, has improved every season he has played in CGY. He's a valuable asset to the Flames. I know the hate is strong for the guy sometimes but he's not a part of the problem.

$2.5 to $3 million if it's a short-term deal.
$2.0 to $2.5 million for a multi-year.

I said let him walk but only because I have no confidence that the flames won't get screwed in arbitration. He deserves about 2M per season. But anything above that and I'd regret it.

With Colborne, it's not about money but term IMO. I would like a 1 year deal where he proves whether or not late season push was reflective of his actual progression.
If he earns a bigger contract going forward, so be it.

He's just to inconsistent for me. I wouldn't do anything longer than 2 years and I'd only do it in the 2-2.5 range.

How do they calcuate this? If he is awarded $3.85M, we are not able to walk away from it? That doesn't seem fair for the Flames at all.

The walk away amount of $3.5 million was agreed to in the 2013 CBA by the NHL and the NHLPA. It has been increasing by the same percentage as the salary cap has increased.

Same. He mostly stunk until they attached him to Backlund and Frolik's hip at 5-on-5. I'd try to move him... I hear Jim Benning is paying top $$ for younger NHL'ers who didn't meet their draft expectations. Tre should give him a call.
Having said that I don't care much for Burke's comment about not liking that he got a lot of his points in March... they all count and if the Flames were in the hunt for the playoffs all that March scoring would have been anointed as "clutch" and not as a negative.
