Nexen Long Lake camp has already burned. I think Aostra is gone too.

I don't think there is anything in the tailing pond that would catch fire.

We completed an aerial assessment on May 12. The visual inspection indicated that the main facility and surrounding well pads remain intact; though our camp site was apparently destroyed.

Blacksands burned down, which is on AOSTRA Road, if that's what you're referring to.

I think they have already said they need help quite some time ago. The only thing that can help is rain and that is beyond anyone's control.

Scottie Upshall wrote a blog for the Player's Tribune regarding the fires.

In case this article hasn't already been posted:

Quote:
Hold the Fort

How one Fort McMurray family built a dream and watched it burn
http://thewalrus.ca/hold-the-fort/

[The article is kinda long-winded, and doesn't go into any great detail about much, but is more of a generalized story of one family's life in Fort McMurray and just a little bit about the fire's effects]

http://firemap.rmwb.ca/

Great tool for seeing if a property is damaged.

Can search by address.

This is what I have heard regarding damaged buildings:

Quote:
Damage Assessment Stats:
• 19,244 structures have been assessed
• 1,921 have been destroyed
• 17,156 are OK to occupy
• 121 are limited to restricted use
• 39 are unsafe to occupy/enter

Seven are still to be inspected

The POC has been turning down offers for help at all levels because there is no need for more boots on the ground (yet) or more water bombers in the sky. Logistically, they are at capacity.

Here's some cool good news. If a pair of shoes is worth $100, that's $100k being donated from a long time, Alberta based, business. Proportionately, perhaps one of the biggest.

Wow, that's awesome! I always get my skate shoes from them, even more reason to keep going. Got my longboard from them, too.

Not a fire casualty, but a guy I went to high school with was killed in a car accident just north of Edmonton on the weekend. His 12 year old son was also seriously injured in the crash. All of this on top of losing their home in Abasand.
