The thing for Stevens is that he's getting paid like a head coach, not like the top ones but way better then other assistants/associates. He's also only 50 and has a great reputation, which he can potentially lose if things don't work out in his next stop as a head coach.
As much as he would like to be the head guy on another team, he's not losing much by staying in LA either.

Too bad. We had one of the best coaches in the game right here and he fired himself as coach.

Ha. I didn't interpret it that way. I thought he was holding his jacket for him as he took it off. But then it looks like it's on the ground.
Seeing that gif again makes me want Playfair as coach just a little bit.

Thing is, money is very important, but it's not everything, and it's not like he's going to take a pay cut to become a head coach. I'm sure his desire to actually be a head coach and have that responsibility is probably a lot more of burning factor than whatever the financial implications of his next move will be.
And these guys are competitive. If he's any good, or if he's going to be any good, I doubt he's all that fearful of the risks of stepping out of his comfort zone and becoming a head coach. These guys want to take that risk, and don't tend to worry about what they might lose, but focus more on what they might gain and have full belief in themselves.

Also awesome is the player just to the right of Playfair trying not to laugh.

Good for him. Great coach. Mixed feelings about him coming back. Hope he gets one more cup with L.A.

I heard that Sutter was going to come to Calgary, but changed his mind when BT and BN wouldn't agree to move Hamilton.

I was wondering if he'd cast an eye towards his old team mate Bob Murray to see if the Anaheim job might be open. LA is still very much a win now team and the ownership isn't near as cheap as Anaheim. So that likely factored in. But talent wise....the Kings are on the hook for a lot of money and term to older guys. I think Anaheim's on ice team has a better shot to win right now than LA. But Daryl would seem to be a pretty loyal guy, so I suspect that also factored in him not wanting to leave the Kings for a big time rival. Although that would have been awesome.

^^^Oh, I'm sure the Kings will find a way to slither their way out of any bad contracts they have eventually.

That team and that city you can't blame him for wanting to stay. Life must be good.
