Darryl Sutter would be fantastic. Hoo-boy. Come back and finish what you started DS. It's time to leave those cheating cheaters and come home.

Craig Conroy and Martin Gelinas could heavily endorse Darryl return.
Loved D Sutter and still do.
Wonder what other veteran players such as Gio, Brodie, Stajan have to say in this case.?

Simpsons quotes are always welcome!
Quick coaching update - Friedman says no contract offered to Boudreau today.

I look at his drafts, and the ones that he was in charge of were all horrid. The only marginal player that became anything was Prust. He started to let the scouting department to have more freedom to do what they wanted and things changed.
He stole one guy he was familiar with from his previous coaching job, and that's about it.
He decimated the cup team, shedding guys like Commodore and Lydman for basically nothing and let other guys go needlessly (Conroy/Gelinas) in order to sign a couple has beens in Amonte/Friesen and McCarty.
There was a good reason why the Flames floundered after 04, and it's pretty much entirely on the shoulders of Darryl.
That said, he was a hell of a coach.

It will come. The Babcock contract term and money may have raised the price and term for top coaches. I imagine Melnyk will have to think long and hard about how much money and term he's willing to offer but I can see Boudreau asking for 5 years at $4 million/season at the very least seeing Todd McLellan is making $3 million/season.

Do you think the Flames would match/offer around that amount?
I found the news from Elliotte interesting as he was saying goes how he thought Ottawa would try to close a deal today

What is your opinion on Sutter's ability to develop young players? As GM, it doesn't seem like he was able to develop his prospects into viable NHLers, although that may have been solely because the picks were bad.
If he was coach of the Flames, could younger players get playing time? And would they be able to grow and improve with him choosing the lines/ice times?

Pearson/Toffoli/defensemen seemed to develop fine under him.

I don't think money would be an issue for the Flames if they really think he's the guy. If I'm Murray Edwards who really, really likes that playoff revenue I'm probably having at least a good talk with Treliving and Burke that time is money and if they want to pass over likely guaranteed annual playoff revenue in Boudreau for an first time head coach they better ensure this new guy doesn't set the franchise back.

A rookie coach is a huge risk for Treliving. If it's a "miss", Treliving is gone. If he hires Boudreau or Sutter, he would get a mulligan - ie the reaction would be "Well, who could have predicted that Darryl would forget how to coach - you can't blame Treliving"...

He seemed to do well with a mostly young/inexperienced roster in 04, and with the Kings. I doubt there'd be much problems with the Flames group because of that. Being a 2X cup winner in the last 5 years also helps with players buying in.

Darryl refused to listen to any of the scouts. And picked the players who he like even though the scouts didn't like said players .Dave lowery was horrible at the world Jr's but he was an excellent coach with the Hitmen. So he has had good and bad coach experiences.

I highly doubt Melnyk will pay what BB will be asking for he's to cheap. Murry Edwards on the other hand would hand over it in my opinion.

Good call. He's only won 2 Cups in the last 5 years. What a chump.

Darryl Sutter seams like the type of coach Burke would love.
Giordano would probably endorse this, as well as Gelinas or Conroy.
