I've heard some stories about the fight to save the water treatment plant. If what I heard was even 50% accurate, those fire fighters are gd warriors.

I've created this thread to continue with the discussions about how we can help the people of Fort McMurray, and the on-going tally of donations made to the Red Cross here:

Okay, the outpooring of kindness and support is unreal. I apologize for the oversharing, everyone has heard more about my personal life in the last 48 hours then the last 15+ years here on CP but my lord. Brother and his fiancee decided to stay one more day in the Edmonton area at my sisters, their cat arrived today! So that was nice. It is Hudson's third birthday so they decided to spend it at "The Jump". She invited any of her displaced friends in that area to join them, said just show up, nothing else please. Well, friend of a friend of a friend grapevine type thing and a few people showed up with some toys as they were having fun.

This is my brother Aaron, his fiancee Janine, 5 year old Kaylee and birthday boy 3 year old Hudson.

Spoiler!

Don't even know what to say. I thought the few toys I've secured for them would be lots but peoples giving spirit is just unreal.

He loves Paw Patrol by the way, in case you didn't notice.

Those paw patrol toys are pretty boss. The Marshall stuffed animal is a nice touch if intentional.

A few of us on CP work for a large sports retailer and they have been bombarded by employees on how they can help, so far here's some of the corporate highlights.

Quote:
First and foremost, we have ensured that all of our employees and their families are safe. Unfortunately, some employees have lost their homes and property, and we expect that number may increase once they can return to their homes.

We’ve been able to add to the support we are providing the community through the following initiatives:

• Donated $250,000 in gift cards to the Red Cross to be distributed to those in need

• Given over 18,000 essential items of clothing from our stores

• Donated emergency supplies such as cots, sleeping bags, pillows, ear protection, etc. to the Fort McMurray fire department for emergency responders and neighbouring fire departments

• Yesterday, four truckloads arrived to nearby stores from Calgary with vital items like pet food, camping equipment, portable power and snacks

• Worked with any impacted CTFS credit card customers who have called, to ensure they aren’t worried about their credit cards and can focus on their immediate well-being

• Sent 3 trucks full of water to the Athabasca store - over 140,000 bottles of 500ml water. We will deploy from there to emergency shelters as the need arises. Additional water has been sourced to ensure we can continue to provide this important resource in the coming days.

• Offered the provincial emergency task force access to supplies we carry in our stores that might be helpful in the recovery process.
I don't know how much we've donated as employees, but it's nice to work for a company that gives back and cares about the local communities.

Not sure how well these screenshots will work but I hope you can read them. I can't seem to link directly to the closed FB page but this is happening right now and growing faster than the fire!

nevermind. Apparently this information wasn't true.
