World Championships
Canada off to a good start beating the US 5-1. Watched a bit of it and it looked pretty even territorially but we were the better finishers and the American goalie didn't look that good.
Finland against Belarus on TSN 4 and 5 about to start. Get to watch Laine.
Czechia against Russia on TSN 3 and 1 also starting.
I guess we are the defending champions.

I'm stuck in a course for work at the moment. Who scored for Canada?

Hall, Duchene, Gallagher, Jenner, and Marchand.

Duchene got POTG with a goal and an assist.
Hall, Gallagher, Jenner and Marchand with the others.
Not having any Flames is a disappointment.

At least the Flames have Backstrom and Backlund to cheer on.

Johnny and Mono both declined, possibly as they're waiting for new contracts.
Worst case would be a bad injury right before you sign a 7/8 year $50Mish contract. Might suddenly change things.

Team Finland is so weird these days. As long as I can remember we've tended to be a defense oriented team short on offense. Lack of centers has especially been an issue.
Now we have so many centers that Barkov, Koivu and Mikael Granlund are all on the same line... and this is just the World Championships. And our defense is a mess. It's like a weird mirror world
As a historical note, Patrik Laine became the youngest Finn to play in a World Championship game. (Previous record holder was Reijo Ruotsalainen.)

Bennett ? Instead of who? Domi Sam Reinhart and McDavid are the only 20 year olds on the team... Scheifele 29 goals 61 pts , Jenner 30 goals and Stone are the other under 24 guys on the team.
Pretty sure that they didn't ask Monahan twice when he turned them down.
Gio and Brodie would have been important on Defense ... and Hamilton would be an upgrade on the Canadian defense

Was Jokipakka asked? No NHL d-men on the roster... couple from the AHL and the rest from Europe.

Didn't the Flames have Oleg Yevenko in the system once?

Was signed for an ATO with Adirondack but don't think he ever got a contract with the big club.

Laine is a monster. Any chance the Leafs pick him first?

I wonder what it would take the pry that pick out of Cheveldayoff's cold, dead hands?
