You also have to take into account the fact that the VP pick is also, ideally, a succession plan. That was the biggest problem with Biden, and why Castro is thought by some to be on the short list.
The problem with Kaine is that he's just kind of there. He's not going to hurt you, but he's not a particularly interesting or energizing guy to put on your ticket. Deval Patrick makes all kind of sense to me, in that he can put on at least as good of a show as Trump while also being a pretty likable character. No swing state votes there, though.
Franken has always just seemed really whiney to me.

It hasn't been a very good one. The number of VP's that were directly elected to the office of President after serving as Vice-President is 4. George H.W. Bush (a one term president) was the last and prior to him Martin Van Buren in the mid-19th Century.
I think the more modern view of the VP is that they're a helper... they either help you get elected, help you govern, or help you with both.

Maybe they can exhume Huey Long to act as VP. "Every man a billionaire!"

Well "Literally Definition of the Word #######" doesn't really roll of the tongue as a Trump nickname, even if it's highly accurate.

Biff. There is nothing more appropriate.

Happy #CincoDeMayo! The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!

Of course Donald Trump eats taco bowls, the only Mexican food that comes with a wall built around it.

I know Bernie has said he will do all he can to keep Trump, err Biff out of the White House but for just a second...
Biff has not hurled much in Bernies way in terms of insults. In fact, he's been sympathetic towards him and the voting process. They basically see eye to eye on trade, and they both can play "the outsider" card.
I could certainly see Biff trying to court Bernie, if for nothing else but to gain his voting block support.
Biff and Bern. Has a nice ring to it actually. As an added bonus, it keeps the Clintons on the outside looking in.
