I can honestly say that out of all the coaches I've watched since I've started paying attention to Flames' hockey sinceI was a kid, Hartley is the first one I'm truly sad to see go.
Agree with you, but I was even sadder to see Bob Johnson leave.

As per John Shannon's tweet:
Three teams have asked permission to talk to Carlyle. Ottawa, who have interviewed him already, Minnesota and Calgary.

Treliving will not hire Carlyle. He's doing his due diligence, but Carlyle is just not a fit based on anything Brad has said.

Things I've picked up on in interviews:

-Treliving overall did not like Bobs style, work hard to get puck then rush out of the zone as fast as possible. That was the one thing I noticed from Treliving in terms of on ice. Work hard to get it and give it away was repeatedly stressed.

-Fan960 mentioning issues connecting with the players, unable to properly relate on a personal level

-Bob had an old school style and the players didn't like it anymore, he took the team as far as it can go. Treliving is probably right.

Hartley did develop Brodie, Gaudreau and Monahan very very well and we are fortunate for that. Those 3 are going to light it up next season.

I think Hartley was done as soon as Treliving got hired. I just feel he probably has a certain vision for this team. He was probably preparing to letting him go during his first season or after they'd miss the playoffs, but the team had success so he had to sign him to the extension, (he pretty much had to, he couldn't fire him then). So Hartley's leash was pretty short, and this was the first opportunity to let him go.

Nothing more then a gut feeling, I just never saw Hartley being here long after Treliving got hired. I'm ok with the move too, as I think it's proactive for us to take the next step.

Question for those who heard the conference call on Wed. with Hartley. I tried listening to it on Fan 960 website but it appears that its a shorter version as towards the end the call just ends.

Also for those who heard Brian Burke talk to Fan 590 in Toronto he mentioned a few times that personnel decisions also was a factor in the firing. Management wanted some of the tougher guys being utilized more often is what I remember.

Is Burke suggesting that Bollig get more playing time? Outside of Derek Engl, Bollig and Ferland we don't have too much toughness so I could only draw the conclusion that he wanted more of Bollig since he sat for a good chunk of the year. Is this really part of the strategy to get us to the promised land??

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on Burke's interview

This is not what I got out of it. He did mention issues with player management but separately mentioned needing to be a heavier style of team.

That being said I didn't like how much he regurgitated wanting to be a heavier team. You need a mix of skill and size and he seemed to have tunnel vision on the size aspect. I think Treliving is more balanced - at least in his interviews.

Bouma, Hathaway (who I thought should've made the team out of camp ahead of Raymond), Grant, Jooris, Jokipakka, Wotherspoon are some other players I thought of that he might have been referring to in addition to the guys you have already mentioned.

Jeezus...these guys are being paid millions of dollars to play a game for kids and they can't handle coming to work everyday? They're not even putting in full 8 hour days on off days. This is embarrassing if true.

The players also get those mandatory off-days as well. It isn't like they are going 30 days straight a month.

True but your getting paid millions ...suck it up your going to retire in your mid 30s .... No I'm empathetic but this is the life they chose.

1%ers complaining about this really ticks me off . Yor seeing more money in a year then the majority of any one else on the planet will see in 3 to 4 years.

Boo ####ing who their boss is hard on them...go out and do some hard manuel labour in the same amount time for dick all pay .. O no my boss yelled at me .. Suck it up.

.
This reminds me of that time when Nazem Kadri got fined $200,000 and a poster on here said "most of us barely make that in a year!"

There's probably extraneous circumstances. Sticking to rigid authoritative rules might be counter productive, I can definitely see the merit in feeling begrudged when they are performing.

The season will naturally have ups and downs so if the coach is riding the team during an upswing it can kill motivation in pretty much any work setting.

Work really hard in a stressful setting then when things go well for a little while the coach doesn't give a moment to destress from the disappointment and stress of the beginning of the season.

Yeah they get millions but they're also humans that react to situations just like any other person would.

Obviously they did suck it up and show up to work everyday, or almost (superbowl incident). The question is are they going to be as productive as they could be under that environment. Sure, we've all had terrible bosses that yelled and made us hate coming to work. Personally speaking those were also the times that I wasn't at my best as an employee.

Let's not act like our players don't work hard during practice, etc.

Almost every new player that joined this team had mentioned is some way how difficult practice was compared to their old team.

Hartley was demanding. This isn't a story about how the players don't want to work.

You need some perspective. The season is a long, physical grind, and players need time to rest and recover properly. Younger players who are not as experienced might struggle with that a bit more and may have begun turning Hartley out.

Obviously we all feel they are getting compensated for their 'work', but at some point it doesn't matter how many millions you make. You can't honestly drive people into the ground and keep expecting good results.
