Wentz is mostly being drafted on arm talent and not actual in game accomplishments. So that's a lot of the same reasons we saw JaMarcus get drafted. I think Wentz has a chance if he sits for 2-3 years, but otherwise he'll probably be another bust. This is potentially looking like a historic year of QB busts since teams are getting mega desperate and we could see 5-6 QBs in the first round tonight. Someone should wise up and throw the Bucs a 1st or 2nd rounder for Mike Glennon. Probably better than most of the QBs who will be drafted tonight.

^^ 5-6 QBs in round one? Like who? Goff and Wentz go 1 and 2, and then there's Lynch. But I highly doubt guys like Cook, Hackenberg and Prescott are 1st rounders in a draft class that is deep with edge rushers, linemen and cornerbacks.

What does the Bronco QB situation have to do with this?

I'm heading to Tampa for the home opener against the Rams and for Redsox-Rays that weekend. Can't wait, haven't been to a game in the bay for a few years so I'm really looking forward to it.

^^^Because of the 5th year option, I think we'll see a lot of teams either take QBs or trade up from the 2nd round to get one in the late 1st. Plus desperation trumps all. I expect Goff, Wentz and Lynch to all be gone by 15. But if you look at teams past 15, you have the Jets, Arizona, Buffalo, Denver, even a Pittsburgh or Kansas City who will all consider a QB. I think we'll see at least 5 in the first round.

Obviously he meant Bradford. I agree with Pagal, Philly needs to sit whomever they draft for at least a year. Then that player can bust hard next year instead and maybe the 2018 draft class has a real franchise QB in it. Rosen should be coming out that year anyway.

yeah teams like the Jets and Broncos will consider a QB, sure. The question is whether you spend a 1st on a mediocre long-term project if you have other holes. Still don't see how 5-6 are taken in the 1st, but I guess we'll see.
and the Steelers have so many holes defensively (cornerback, nose tackle, safety) that they'd be pretty stupid to invest a 1st in a QB.

Ya sorry, I meant Bradford and not Sanchez.
I can see Lynch going in Round 1 but adding two more quarterbacks seems like a HUGE stretch. Hackenberg, Cook and Prescott are long term projects and probably shouldn't be taken in the 1st round. But the QB obsession is strong with each and every NFL franchise, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a ton of reaches at QB. I think there will be 3 QBs taken in Round 1.

Like SCD said the big reason to take one of those guys in round one is that fifth year option. If a guy is a project that's a great thing.
There's been a lot of chatter around that if there's a QB left at 31 that SF likes then Denver swaps with their 38th pick and gets Kaep. Even if SF eats the money Denver wants them to it saves them money long term with the 5th year option.

Ya, that's true. I know Rick Spielman is a big big proponent of the 5th year option, which is probably why the Vikings have had 9 1st round picks from 2011 to 2015.

5th year option is a big deal now. Bucs just learned the hard way, didn't pick up Doug Martin's, he has a big year and they have to pay him $2.5 million more to have him next year than had they simply picked up the option. It's obviously especially valuable for QBs to avoid one more year where you have to pay the 20th best QB $18 million per.

Anyone else watching the NFL draft? I like a fool booked tickets to go and see Civil War, so I'll miss most of it.
I know its stating the obvious, but boy are the types of players in each of the main 4 sports different types of people. In Hockey, you get the quiet serious, no smiling types in suits. In the NFL though, wowzers, some funky ass outfits on show tonight. Tunsil and Elliott rocking some....interesting outfits to say the least.

Could be more. Goff, Wentz and Lynch will all go in the 1st round. Might even go in the top 10. Could see Denver picking Cook at 31.

They are pretty high on Landry Jones anyway.

You're selling Wentz short. The kid is an athlete and can make plays with his legs as well as his arm. He's super smart and comes from a program that wins. Except in Missoula.
Not saying he's the next superstar QB, but I think he has a decent chance to be very good.

He's got talent, no doubt. But all I can keep thinking is Aaron Rodgers sat for a very long time, and he's going to be in the best ever discussion when he retires. More guys need to sit before playing, but because coaches have no job security relative to 20-30 years ago they always rush these QBs who need some work. I think of all these QBs are really closer to 2nd round players but here we are, where QBs now are so overvalued it's out of control.

Elliotts outfit choice is a shot at the NCAA, as they banned him for wearing crop top jerseys.
