The Hawks lost 1st rounder and a decent prospect in Dano but when you're signing guys like Panarin in the off season f free you can make this moves.

I suppose, but I do recall a lot of folks here going wild over the Hawks and their moves bringing them a cup. In retrospect - that Weise trade was terrible and this one wasn't much better.

At least Ladd performed to the level that he was expected in the playoffs. Solid 2nd line 18 minutes a game.
He led the Hawks in SOG and Hits.

The shots is slightly surprising but I thought outside of game six Ladd was largely invisible.

I think he means Mark Dano will be a part of a trade to the Dallas Stars. It's the only thing that makes sense.

In a choice between Ladd and Lucic, I'd be interested in Ladd at a reasonable cost. Much better fit for us than Lucic or Okposo, and I don't think he gets nearly as much on the open market. He's not a core player.
Maybe a little more than Frolik dollars?

The Vermette deal in 2015 worked and this one didn't. I am sure trading all these picks and prospects will hurt the Hawks down the road but they have won 3 cups in 6 years with a core still in their prime. Gotta go for it

One goal and one assist in seven games I would think is beneath expectations for Ladd. He was their eighth best scorer. I'd expect 4 or 5 points over a seven game series.
That said, he does have only 18 points in 64 career playoff games, so 2 points in 7 games is better than his career average. I'd still suggest Chicago was expecting more for the package they gave up to get him.

I'd trade any and all prospects/players/picks the Flames have for a single cup.

I can see Toews on the downswing of his career already with maybe a couple blips of great seasons. I know he's only 26 years old but who would have thought someone like Mike Richards or even Eric Staal being past their primes years ago.

Problem the Hawks have now is two forwards making over 10m...in their cup years those guys made under 7
yes I would take it for 3 cups in 6 years just saying...other than a 12 game win streak they weren't even a very good team this season

I think the thought at the time was the 10m is manageable if the cap continued to increase. Oops.

I guess it worked in that they won and he scored a few key goals, but IMO, he wasn't particularly good and didn't make that much of a difference. Healthy scratch for a portion of the regular season, if I recall correctly.
I understand the thought that trading picks/prospects is "worth" it if you win the Cup, but we really can't know for sure what the Hawks would have done without him.

It's not like the Hawks had any way to forsee a global oil crash. The NDP probably didn't CC them.

They won. So we know what happens with Vermette. He scored an OT winner.
If they win, it's worth it. End of discussion.

Thanks for ending the discussion, but I think you are confusing cause and effect.
For what it is worth, I think Desjardins was the more impactful pickup.

20 GP 4G 3A 4PIM 0.35PPG. For his career, Vermette is a 0.51PPG player in the regular season.
The team acquired Antoine Vermette because he's a dependable, smart veteran who you can rely on to take that extra shift when Kane and Toews aren't on the ice without hurting you. He played 20 of 23 playoff games, and delivered exactly what they wanted.
Maybe the team wins without him. We already know they win with him. Someone else could have scored that OT winner. But they didn't, Vermette did.
If you want to argue Desjardins was a shrewder pickup, by all means. But Antoine Vermette did exactly what he was brought in to do.

Dano was drafted in 2013 #27 overall
Poirier went #22
Shinkaruk #24
Klimchuck #28
Dano has 31 pts in 69 NHL games.... he is much further along than the others of this cohort.
He has put up similar numbers at this point in his career to Baertschi who CP (myself included) had as the #2 prospect in 2013 behind the just drafted Monahan and ahead of Gaudreau.
If you you want to belittle the optimism of other organization's fans homerism then you might want to cast a critical eye to the posters who have Shinkaruk listed in the Flames top 6 for the coming season (and the one's that had Poirier penciled in in last years line-up.
Having Poirier the highest ranked Flame prospect (2015 edition) outside of Bennett is calling him to be a future star.
At the very least Dano is a much better prospect/asset than anything the Flames got for Iginla/Bouwmeester.
PS. I don't see that Dano will work out with the Jets as his competition for the small skilled roster spots is pretty severe: Ehlers, Connor, Petan, Little and Perrrault.

So you don't think Dano will even pan out for the Jets, and you took issue with my post?
PS. You're amazing.
