Also I can't remember but didn't Dorne send someone to Danny and they turned him down or something? For marriage? But they were still planning to throw in with her if she came over? I guess even with this direction they still get the same end effect, Dorne will be fighting against the Lannisters and therefore the Kingdom, assuming they can hold control. Just seems like such a let down or a cop out... or dare I say sloppy.

Your book leanings are showing through in the TV thread, GL.

Give an example? If you're going to call someone out at least have some evidence. I thought I was doing a good job. Isn't all of this new content anyway? I honestly don't remember.

Ah yes, can't remember his name. But Dany shoots him down so he figured the next best thing was to bring the dragons back. He goes into the pyramid where they are and gets promptly killed via fire, and I think that is how the Dracaris got out.

What about them? I honestly don't understand what you are getting at. Be specific man.

Quote:
3) Dorne. That is all.

3) They killed off multiple major characters in about 30 seconds. There was no hint or tip to us that the people of Dorne actually hated Doran. All of a sudden they just kill him and one stab to the back is enough to kill his body guard who apparently from last season we should gather is one of the best fighters in the world based on his comment to Jamie Lannister. Sloppy, convenient. One of the crappy sand snakes killed a guy who claims he could go toe to toe with the second best swordsman we know of, second only to Selmy.
Ok what is in there that I don't see, anyone?

So, Melisandre. I think we knew she was enhancing her appearance with charms in the books. I don't recall any hints about her being an ancient crone, along the lines of Maggy the Frog. I don't think Melisandre will end up being Maggy the Frog in the show...but am I forgetting about details from the book that suggest just how long Melisandre has been around?
Vox actually has a pretty good article on interpreting this latest revelation:

Daenerys holds the title of the biggest waste of time so far. The whole damn Targaryens have been a giant waste of time for how much ink Martin has spent on them.

Unlike most, I've generally been enjoying the Dorne stuff. Dorne is probably the most singularly powerful nation in the world (easily more powerful than any of the seven kingdoms and the East seems to only consist of city states and Dothraki hordes), and hasn't lost any resources while the rest of the world is fighting amongst themselves. They're also a proud warrior nation that has suffered many humiliations without retaliating, it's not hard to imagine pro war fervor has begun to grip the nation. I think Ellaria and the sand snakes are being played by some upstart nobility trying to claim the throne for themselves.

There was a secret marriage pact to have Viserys and Arianne Martell marry. Viserys, being an idiot, got himself his golden crown. So Doran sent Quentyn to wed Daenerys.

Poor Doran, everyone around him is just idiots. Viserys gets himself killed. Oberyn gets himself killed. Arianne almost messes up everything.

And then they screw him up completely in the show.

It is amazing how much I have forgot from the books, I will need to re read the Wiki's before the next one comes out. So I've got a decade or so then.

Maybe we need a 3rd thread called "Let's endlessly complain about GoT".

Say it is the show's fault for being poor but I for one would like some discussion about storylines and possibilities, not complaints about everything and anything. There is pretty much zero actual discussion and speculation going on. Just complaining.

Just wait until Sunday, by the time the next episode airs and they are focusing more time on specific story lines it will all clear up. There is a camp that liked the premiere but thought it was sloppy and a camp that thought it was all around great. I have a feeling our two camps will be merged in due time and dancing the dance of life naked together in the pale moon light.

We've pretty much discussed everything that's up to date in the book so far. There's only so much repeating of speculation and theory that folks want to do while we wait for The Winds of Winter. If you want speculation and discussion from Dance backwards...read through the thread, and you'll get some. Then maybe bring a new point forward.

And besides, GoT readers love to complain. It's one of our hallmarks. It tends to happen when you have something immensely popular, but take 5+ years between releases of it. Imagine the howling of the TV watchers if they only got one season every 5 years (maybe). I think that the book readers are entitled to a little kvetching now and again.

IMO, they got in the season 6 premier what Martin's done to the book readers for the last 16 years (Yeah, Storm/Swords was 2000...) since it feels like Feast and Dance haven't really done much but move the plot a baby step or two forward (despite their massive page count).

So there you go, a complaint and discussion topic.

Oh sorry, I didn't mean people in this thread, I was actually talking about the TV show watchers. I'm used to people ragging on the books.

I think I'm going to have to avoid that other thread for a while. It is nothing but one giant ball of repeating complaints about dorne and plotholes.

I feel like me and a few other people are a small minority that actually like the show. I literally tried to talk about a storyline and someone trolled me saying it must be sarcasm. Maybe I didn't have enough complaints in my post to fit in.

I'm not sure why I'm defending the show. I guess people can say they think it is stupid if they want. I'm just tired of reading "I don't like this character or this story therefore it is stupid and detracts from the show." I get some of the complaints of the execution of the Dorne storyline and the lack of context for what is going on but it is episode one! Plus if they did use a bunch of episode to provide backstory the complaints about subplots and slowness would just get louder.

Is everyone else on board with the idea that Doran and Trystanne were not meant to die when originally cast? Or I should say not die like this.

I think there was enough backlash with the Dorne storyline and the realization that they could get to the likely ultimate destination, Lannister vs Doran war, by just killing off Doran without a convoluted plot that the majority fans didn't seem to care much about.

I just couldn't see the writers not wanting to get the "Fire and Blood" payoff. But I can understand, given the medium, the need to just get to the point.
