I hope he's able to put in a great playoff run.

Good point. On top of the contract, Russell is pretty tough when it comes to playing through injuries. It makes me wonder if this was his choice or the coach's choice.
I doubt that he'll miss many more playoff games. We probably don't need to worry.

Russell is out with the flu FYI, not an injury. So I'm not sure the concern over his durability applies.

Boy the Wild are simply not a great hockey team. You have to wonder if Chuck Fletcher is on the hot seat as that is a team built up to the cap as they have less than $5 million in cap space to work with in the offseason.

Oh God, if we miss out on our first round pick due to the Flu....

Yeah the acquisitions of Vanek and Pominville have been detrimental to the team this year. Pominville was signed for too much money for too long for a winger and now his play is going downhill and his contract is an anchor. Their defense also lacks a real physical, defensive defenseman who can overpower opposition forwards. I mean classic mistakes in building a team. Paying too much to wingers who are the least important position (Vanek, Pominville) and become average players when they start to decline. Not having a big enough, strong enough, tough enough defense. Do they even have a single power forward? Perhaps Coyle could be seen as that. They've got some good pieces and could turn it around quick but I don't know if their current management has the proper vision of what excels in the NHL and how to achieve and prioritize types of players in the cap world.

Missing a game or two with the flu won't cost us the pick. But if he were to get hurt in game 3 of next series for example, then the 50% threshold could come into play.
Almost makes me want to pull for Minnesota to win one so Russell can bank another game.

Or Dallas sweep .. then he is already at 50% for the first series ... and the other series goes long to give them a good rest while they wait

hats probably the smarter thing to wish for. Although do you really believe this flu business? It is the playoffs after all.

Lets hope next series they win a close one in which they need Russell and can't pull any fast ones!
I really doubt any team would try to pull that off though, and risk anything during the playoffs.

Chris Porter gets the Wild on the board, 2-1 Stars after twenty minutes.

I've been curious, so might as well ask it now regarding the 50% of games provision.
Is that in the first two rounds? Or the entire playoffs?
If the Stars sweep, let's say without Russell, and then win round 2 in 6 games with Russell, but he's knocked out of playoffs in that game, will we lose that first rounder if the Stars play 7 in round 3, or make finals, cause he'll fall under 50%?

I read it as he has to play at least 50% of the games in both rounds.
So if this series goes 5 and Russell misses 3 of them, the condition isn't met and we get a 2nd. Doesn't matter if Russell plays 7/7 in the next series.
That's just how I read it anyway, I could be wrong.

It was reported as the first two rounds combined. Here is the original trade thread: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=153115
