Good stuff. Need a RW in the worst way.
EDIT
In a late night snicker I conjured this up:

yay, free asset! Hope he does well. Will probably play in Stockton for a while, but given our non-existent RW depth he'll get his chances.

For what its worth, Czech league's NHLE is .61. A .6 ppg RW would be most welcome on this team next season.

per IIHF/NHL rules he can't officially sign until his team's season is over. Pribyl's team is currently tied 1-1 in the best of 7 series for the Czech league finals. So the below schedule can give you a rough idea of when the earliest the Flames may announce the signing.
April 18 Game 3
April 19 Game 4
April 22 Game 5
April 24 Game 6 *
April 26 Game 7 *
* if necesscary.
As he needs surgery for his right knee he won't be on the Czech World Championship team.
Unlike Cervenka, Wolf, and Nakladal who signed 1 year ELCs; Pribyl is required to sign a 2 year ELC per the CBA as a 23 year old.

It is obviously not that straightforward, as coming off surgery may impact his transition, but if he hit that NHLE straight across, there is one of the other RW for the top 9 acounted for:
LW - Gaudreau, Colborne?
C - Monahan, Backlund, Bennett
RW - Frolik, Pribyl
Throw a guy like Bouma/Ferland in one of the LW spots for some physical play with potential upside on offence, draft/sign one more forward - things look good.

I would take the NHLE with a grain of salt. Sample size of players going from the Czech league to the NHL is small.
A NHLE of .61 would imply the Czech league is better than Sweden and Finland's pro leagues and that is certainly not the case.

Ahhhhh. This is the thing Benning screwed up correct? Tried to sign the Russian to a 3 year deal?

If he doesn't make the big club out of camp, it would be cool to see him play with Jankowski! That would be some big body's to play against!

Darn - was hoping to see what he's like at the Worlds. Would he have been selected though?

Quotes from the Czech national coach made it seem like he was disappointed that pribyl wasn't going.

Treliving strikes again as usual!
Now one of Laine, Puljujarvi, Dubois, Tkachuk or Nylander and we are set on wing especially with at least one of Shinkaruk/Mangiapane/Poirier or Klimchuk destined to be a top 6 scoring winger at some point.

This guy is making the team out of camp. I already have him on one of the top two lines. Even though he's not physical, he got the size and skill the Flames desperately need. Seems like a perfect fit for the top line unless the Flames get lucky and draft Laine.
Hopefully the knee injury won't slow him down to begin the season.

Certainly can't hurt!
as said he's big, plays the right side and shoots right. Like his age too. I think NHLe is interesting as hell, but unreliable at the same time. It has proven more accurate with younger players as opposed to brining over older European players that don't adjust as well.
Bottom line the Flames had 8 players that had a .5 ppg last year, three of those were defensemen and Bennett was just under the mark at .47. So the Flames don't need Prybil to be a .6 guy at all ... anything over .4 puts him in the 6th or 7th spot on the team and a big boost.

It's probably a good reason why Pribyl would sign with the Flames. Looked at the depth chart on the right side and realized it's a great opportunity for him.
|
Exactly.
Also, defense is much more system-dependent. Nakladal was NHL-ready but needed some time on NA ice and to learn how to play the NHL game.
Conversely, while there is some learning curve for wingers as well, it is minor and if a guy is an NHL level talent, there is no need to hold him back.
His size, speed, age, and offensive production suggest he is ready to jump right in. Especially considering the Flames lost two RWs last year and there is pretty much no one else.
The primary issue that might hold him back is the surgery. They may feel he could use 10 - 20 games in the AHL to get his game back.
Plus, at the beginning of the year it is often the case that there are one or two guys that the team is unsure of. They may want to send him down for a bit while deciding on someone else.
But other than that, he should be able to step right in.

Nice. The way I see it the team has 5 legitimate top 9 forwards (Gaudreau, Monahan, Frolik, Backlund, Bennett) and a 6th who (Colborne) who plays like one sometimes.
Losing Hudler and Jones was no biggie but they were playing top 9.
If the team could add 3 top 9 forwards, 1 through the draft (fingers crossed), 1 elevated from the minors and 1 through UFA it would be a tremendous off season. And a guy like Ferland could still elevate his game.
Would be fantastic if Pribyl scratches one off that list.

Also interesting trivia:
Pribyl has already played on Saddledome ice. Played 2 games for the Czech republic in Calgary for the 2012 WJC. Quarterfinals against Russia and 5th place game against Slovakia. Unfortunately no points in those games.
