Kings/Ducks game looks like a 2nd round tilt. Foreshadowing there

After two periods it is 3-3 in the Jets-Sharks game. Copp and Wheeler score 61 seconds apart late in the second period.

Incredibly valueable? It cost us 5.5% of drafting in the top 3 and 2% of drafting 1st OA. Our chances are only slightly worse. Its really not a big deal.

I swear I saw Kopitar take a big hit from Despres and labour off. Appears to be fine now.

Honestly I think its worse that we have a much higher chance of dropping out of top 6 now.

Tarasenko scored late in the 3rd to tie the game, then again in OT to win it. The Central Division title will come down to the final day of the season.

Dallas and St Louis play their final games at the same time on Saturday. The Stars just need to do as well as the Blues to win the Central.

The winner of the Central will be second overall and play Minnesota in the first round. Second place in the Central will be third overall and play Chicago (who could finish as high as fourth overall) in the first round.

Odds of winning are almost irrelevant it's such a crapshoot. But dropping two or three slots is massive. Odds are the team finishing 5th will likely actually pick 6th or 7th.

The cost of moving up two slots at the high end of the draft is usually either impossible or costly

It's not only about the odds of winning. It's the odds of falling out of the top 5 and the odds of falling out of the top 6 that are arguably much more important.

http://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds

Look at the odds for 6th and then look at the odds for 4th. Very different. 4th last has a 92.6% chance of drafting top 6. 6th last has a 60.9% chance of falling out of the top 6. Pretty big difference there.

Assuming this holds the Flames will be 5th, with an outside chance at 4th (CBJ winning out and Flames losing their last game). Is that right?

Yeah and that's been my focus too. Not about getting #1, it is about the likelihood of overall draft position.

Yes we're 3 up on CBJ but have the tiebreaker.

So CBJ would have to beat Buffalo tomorrow, and Chicago Saturday...

Maybe Chicago mails it in for game 82 though.

Jets win would be huge and likely puts the flames in 5th. Need just one result in the jets and flames final games to hold that place.

Cbj passing the flames is a huge longshot after tonight. Would need perfect results in 3 games... Flames loss and two cbj wins.

There are 9 good players in this draft. We'll get one of them. Just depends on which one we'll get. Could very well get Chychrun or Dubois at #6.

I am hoping that the Jets get Tkachuk, because that would be perfect.

I would love it if we picked top 6. But i'm just not as sold on guys like Nylander and Juolevi. We will see I guess
