Seriously, let's stop.
This is not a Theo Fleury thread, let's talk about the actual topic on hand.
It's refreshing to see so many of the Flames' greats speak so highly about Johnny and they're bang on he really is worth the price of admission.

There's been plenty of guys like Johhny, remember Paul Kariya? Got knocked out cold from a head shot, played the rest of the game.
|
What does Paul Kariya have to do with anything?
Lol what bias? Theo is one of my favourite players of all time. I was devestated when he left Calgary.
And again you don't get it, it's not what he said that was wrong it's the fact he said it when a reporter was asking him about his insight into Johnny Gaudreau.
Why didn't any other player who played in the same era as Fleury say anything similar to Fleury and instead praised Gaudreau? Because they have tact that's why.

So you're mad at Fleury because he didn't praise Gaudreau?
Also, Fleury has the most in common with Gaudreau, logically their similarities make it more personal.

Paul Kariya? I'm not spelling out blatantly obvious parallels to you
Fundamentally Fleury said the game is structured around guys like Johhny. He was right for saying so and we're fortunate that that's the way the game is now. After 95 there were some very dark years for hockey.
Seems like people want to take personal fault with someone that said something logical.
I'll leave it be but I suggest you get to know someone personally before making such remarks because in this instance it seems vastly uncalled for and grossly misinterpreted.

Jesus, it's like talking to a wall. I will repeat it again, it's not what Fleury said, it's when he said it.
I do know him personally, did you forget he played in this City and did interviews almost daily and now lives in this city and has social media? Can't get much personal than that for an average fan.

"I'm not quite sure where his ceiling is in comparison with, say, a Connor McDavid, a bigger guy,’’ hedges Nieuwendyk, the former Flames’ captain and a Calder Trophy recipient back in the day.
Omg, how dare Nieuwendyk talk down about Gaudreau like that!!!!

Oh my bad should just comment if your his friend in real life or a family member! You don't need to know someone for years in real life to know they have no tact. Fleury very obviously has none or his number would be retired in Calgary.
Why else do you think Regehr just had his number retired and Fleury hasn't? I guess the Flames would know him very personally.

Yeah, certain Flames management and alumni would know Fleury personally. You don't.

Theo is just pumping his own tires ... maybe he just hasn't learned to be humble yet .... but that's his problem .... I think its great that former Flame greats think so highly of Johnny .... Go Johnny Go !!!!

Anyone read Iggy's comments and feel like he wouldnt' have any hesitation to come back to play with Johnny?
He'd be a great fit too with how often he comes to protect his teammates.

Nice to hear such glowing remarks from past hockey greats.
I recall Gretzky saying on a Toronto talk show (George Strombo...), last year shortly after Gaudreau began his career with Calgary, that he thought his exceptional talent was rubbing off on the team...or words to that effect.

Came in looking to see if Fleury was trashed. Left more that satisfied.

I think he obviouly burnt a lot of bridges and pissed a lot of people off. He wasn't even allowed inside the building in Chicago in his documentary.

1) tough to play with clutching? True, Fleury played in the dead puck era when scoring was at an all time low
https://www.google.ca/search?q=dead+...obile&ie=UTF-8
2) It's a very specialty oriented game these day? True. Powerplay often dictates a win or a loss due to the larger skill gap available for guys like Kane and Johhny
3)Gives Johhny credit, you may not think so but he did. Could have chose his words better but he clearly sees Johhnys skill.
4)New rules dictate for more scoring? True.
So for those of you calling him a stain what exactly did he say that was so horrendous or disdainful? Please elaborate. Johhnys game would have suffered in the dead puck era, if Getzlaf and Perry had free reign to grab and lean on him he'd get worn down pretty quick. To me it seemed like he was saying the game is structured around guys like Johhny, which it is.

I disagree 100%. You need to check your facts. No question Fleury played in a higher scoring era. Over his 15 year career the average each team scored per game was 3.08.
This year we're sitting at 2.7 and last year was 2.73.
Fleury's worst years were 2.62, 2.63, 2.64, and 2.65. His first 2 years were 3.74 and 3.68.
Looks to me like Theo had an advantage all around.
Even power play goals 0.58 this year and 0.57 last year. These are low numbers compared to the averages over the years.

Hard to imagine how good Gaudreau could actually be down the road.
His first two seasons in the league have been exceptional.
Relatively speaking, with the possible exception of Nieuwendyk, not too many, if any other ex Flames comparisons at this point.
