Would it be nice to see if he can turn into an asset for the franchise after expending a first rounder on him? Of course. Is it likely he really amounts to more than a role player int he bottom six at this point? Probably not.

Very myopic perspective. Was Joel Otto not a difference maker? How about Stephane Yelle? Defensively responsible players can be huge difference makers in the big picture. Don't discount the importance of a good shutdown center.

I wasn't referring to that single post, but the multitude of posters who (in some cases) almost seem like they have a vendetta against the kid to continue their narrative from the hardened stance they took when he was drafted.

when you quote a post, it suggests that you are addressing that specific post, especially when there is no additional qualifier or caveat in said post that speaks to the broader narrative.

Janko threads, for whatever reason, always seem to escalate to the point where reasonable conversation is untenable...

however, these "hardened stances" you speak of aren't just limited to one side
