You are not getting Hamonic for Wideman. We don't have enough assets to make up for that. Seriously, would you give up Brodie for $5M+ bottom pair defenseman, no matter what was offered to offset the difference? Wideman may have some value to some team, but realistically that value will be a mid to low level prospect or draft pick.

To be perfectly fair to Raymond, he's at a PPG in Stockton, which is better than everyone except for Grant (who's out). So I guess he deserves a shot as much as anyone. Thing is, he isn't cut out for where he'd fit in on the Flames which is a bottom 6 role, probably bottom 3, whether he blows it or not. He just isn't a low minute, high energy guy. His best shot would be on Bennett's wing where he might even succeed a bit, but I'm hoping there's a better option by next year.

No I wouldn't, but Brodie hasn't requested a trade to specific geographic location limiting our options like Hamonic has.
EDIT: And it wasn't Hamonic for Wideman. It was Wideman with some money retained for Halak. Then other assets for Hamonic. A near NHL ready Dman, a near NHL ready forward (both options former 1st rounders from 3 years ago) and a late first/early 2nd. Not an out of the box proposal, but it can certainly be improved upon from the Flames side easily.

From predator's website:
Quote:
Nashville Predators representatives, including General Manager David Poile, were in Worcester, Massachusetts, Friday night to watch Harvard's NCAA Tournament game against Boston College. Vesey's exceptional college career came to a close as Havard was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. At some point over the next several days, Poile and Predators' hockey personnel plan to meet with Vesey, his family and his representatives to discuss and reinforce his opportunities to begin his NHL career with the Predators in the immediate future.
|
Not looking good if they have to wait several days to convince him to come. Predators didn't add anyone at the trade deadline specifically to keep a spot for Vesey.

Yeah he's gone. He would have signed already. He's losing money every day by not signing.

Yup he would be a great fit. That said the flames have such a hole on RW that I would take just about anybody with any upside.
1st line needs a RW , i like the Cobourne - Backlund - Frolik line, and Bennett needs somebody with some skill. I really don't want to see Bennett playing next year with Ferland, Bouma or whatever bottom 6 players remaining are. I don't have a problem of one of Ferland or Bouma playing with Bennet,t but give the kid some skill to play with on one of his wings.

Wouldn't mind Bennett being on a line with who we pick in the draft this year, assuming its a forward, and if Treliving can deal with some dead weight and grab a RFA/UFA player.

What's another offseason without a Peter Mueller watch:
Quote:
1. One other player Oates may work with is Peter Mueller, who is pursuing an NHL comeback for next season. Mueller, who played 297 games with Phoenix, Colorado and Florida, spent the last three years in Europe after concussions derailed his North American career. “He’s been haunted by that injury,” agent Darryl Wolski said Monday. “When we first mentioned his name, the response was, ‘Doesn’t he have concussion issues?’” Wolski says that’s no longer the case. How much interest is there? “The word I’d use is there’s a curiosity about him. It might take time, but we’ll be patient and see how it plays out.” Mueller will be 28 in two weeks, a prime age to give it a shot.

My pipe dream is the Stars make the Western Conference final and the Flames trade them their first back for Nichushkin.

I'm sure SureLoss probably already covered this and plus me being lazy to scroll pages but Anton Khudobin will be in the KHL starting next season.

Habs sign goalie Charlie Lindgren, waive Ben Scrivens.
Quote:
MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens have agreed to terms with free-agent goaltender Charlie Lindgren of the St. Cloud State Huskies on a two-year, two-way contract.
General manager Marc Bergevin said that Lindgren will complete the season with the Canadiens and the team placed netminder Ben Scrivens on waivers to make room for him on the roster.
"Lindgren was, in our mind, the best free-agent goaltender available coming out of the U.S. college level," Bergevin said Wednesday in a release. "Lindgren is a top goaltender coming out of college and becomes an excellent prospect for our organization, bringing some depth at this position."
The 22-year-old Lindgren went 30-9-1 with St. Cloud this season. He led NCAA goalies in wins (30), saves (1,020) and tied with two others in shutouts with five. He was second in the NCAA in minutes played (2,343), third in save percentage (.925) and fourth in goals-against average (2.13).
The six-foot-two 190-pound native of Lakeville, Minn. had a 51-29-2 record in 88 regular season games over three seasons with a 2.21 GAA and .921 save percentage.

I would like to see what Shinkaruk could do on Bennett's wing. I don't think he has much more to prove in the AHL. Put Ferland or Hathaway up on the other wing to finish the fights caused by Shinkaruk and Bennett's dickishness
