Colborne is scoring because he's going to the net. He has been playing well of late. Like him on Backlunds line, and I don't mind him with Bennett.

Glad to see Colborne scoring. I can see him being an attractive trade chip.

I wouldn't be against trading him either, if he was doing this well when the pressure was on I would be holding on to him for sure, but now it just looks like he's trying to sucker the Flames in giving him a $2mill+/yr contract.

Yeah I've heard he's devious like that.

He's going nowhere. We need forwards at a low salary base to fill spots on this team.

Don't see how you can say that with such certainty. First off, he is RFA at the end of this year. I suspect his salary will probably double based on what they did with Bouma. Second he is one of the non core pieces on the team that would be appealing to other teams since he doesn't have an anchor contract. I could see him being an important part of a package to land someone.

Not saying he needs to be traded. But you have to give something to get something and apart from draft picks this team is short on attractive trade chips.

Yeah they need lower salary on the bottom lines but he is not the only answer to that problem.

anything under a 4.3M x 5 is a bargain for Colborne based on what the Flames decided to pay Frolik.

Colborne has exactly the same scoring line as Frolik both padded after the season was lost, Colborne is 2nd in hits on the Flames over twice as much
as Frolik... Colborne is a couple of years younger. Colborne fills a glaring need on the Flames.

Maybe Frolik should be considered as a attractive trading chip..... oh wait nobody would want him at 4.3 for the next 4 years so he has no trade value at all.

At the end of last year the Flames and Kings were very equal teams. The Flames added Hamilton and Frolik ( 10.05M long term) (and Bennett and got Gio back from injury) The Kings add Lucic and then Luke Schenn (9.6M cap hit for 1 year) (and Vinny Lecalivier whjo has indicated he is retiring at the end of the season) .

Kings 93 pts - Flames 68

Kings identified that they needed a replacement for Greene and Regehr so they fill in with Schenn

The Flames have the highest scoring D in the league so they add Hamilton. We obviously needed more scoring and mobility. Hamilton was a great acquisition that the Flames did not really need. The hole they needed to fill was an upgrade on Wotherspoon as 5/6/7 defenseman. They accomplished this with Hamilton. Different management with the Flames did the same thing with Bouwmeester... Regehr, Phanuef, Sarich, Aucion and Gio needed a upgrade?

Kings backup is tiny journeyman goalie Enroth he suddenly has a 9.28 sv % 2.04 GA ...

He is a UFA making 1.25M this year. If the Flames would sign him and put him behind the Flames defense he would have a sv% of around .900 and a GAA of 3,00 and would be back on his way to play in Sweden in 2 years.

Everytime Ricardodw makes a post (regardless of what the actual topic is about) I skim what he wrote, look for the word "Hamilton", laugh when I find it and then move on.

Surprisingly, Bouwmeester and Stempniak were spared from his hysterical and off topic litany.

I've always wondered if he's like the southpark episode about family guy where he just uses manatees to make his posts.

all tied together around the absurd idea that Colborne, exactly a commodity that the Flames are short of, starts playing up to his potential and rather than taking hope that he will be able to handle that role lets trade him!!

Going after shiny new parts that you already have is a strategy developed by Kevin Lowe and results in a never ending rebuild.

What exact great holes did Hamilton and Frolik fill that was missing from the 2014-15 lineup?

I just don't see it that way. I see it as balance brought to the team in terms of core pieces.

The Flames had three young forwards and one young defenseman as building blocks.

Hamilton makes the mix 3 and 2 and 3 and 3 in the short term with Giordano.

The team's biggest hole was solid supporting players. Backlund has emerged and Frolik's addition has given them two meaning the core plus supplements is now

3+2 Forwards
2+1 Defensemen

and much more balanced.

Now they need support dmen, another top six winger and a goaltender, but he's shored things up considerably in a year.

when is your date target for results on the rebuild? Gio is not short term.... he starts his 6 year deal next year are you trading him to provide Hamilton with a leadership role?

we finished last year with 4 top-4 d-men and 3-top forwards and Bennett.

Russell was/is a top-4 maybe top-2 on basically any NHL team. Russell was forced out by Hamilton's contract. If Hamilton had clue in his own zone and played as big a game as his size gives hope for then it might have been an upgrade.

We got Frolik and were put in a position where Hudler was not budgeted to be coming back.... we traded a top forward for a support forward... basically for the same cap price. Frolik is 28 and has never ever been a top line forward.

With Colborne and Ferland we already had high potential secondary players.

Gio and Brodie are offense first d-men. Are there any successful team where there are 3 top calibre offense-first d-men?

Is Hamilton going to be asked to change his game to become a better skating Engelland? or continue to play sheltered #4 minutes?

Are we better or worse at the end of this year than we were at the end of last year?
