They are more aesthetically pleasing, period.

Born in '86, and absolutely the same boat here. The '04s SHOULD be my favourites, as they were my best memories as a Flames fan.
But, the 80's retros are fantastic. The Flames in Red, white and yellow looks incredible.
If it's not a direct replacement of the retros we wear now, I'd love to see a new style in those colours.

I never understood the hate for those jerseys, I personally think they are beautiful, especially in person.

That's OK. Some people think cowboy shirts with giant 'Wrangler' logos down the sleeves and across the back, and Dodge Trucks with a giant RAM logo occupying the entire width of the tailgate are beautiful. Those Jerseys are the hockey equivalent of both.
Some people like tacky, garish things. And that's OK.

Oh I already knew that. However because black is an official colour of the Flames organization now the retros are simply outdated. I am fine with them as a 3rd jersey to recognize the past but they will never be our primary jersey again, regardless of what the majority on this board want.

Voted for the current set because I forgot about the change from the V bottom that was introduced in '04. Oh well.

That's kind of the point.
We don't believe the team should have added black as a team colour. If it changed once why can't it change back.
It seems that during the mid 90's there was an influx of black on team jerseys. When did the Kings, change their colours?

if Vancouver can go from blue and green to orange and yellow back to then add red, then drop it, then go to blue but a different blue with an almost grey/blue trim, then back to the first ones again I'm pretty sure the Flames can just omit black
but I'd also be intrigued to see the retro style updated with some black if need be
my first choice would be no black though

Black and red just go together to well. I am not a fan of yellow at all and the retro's have way too much. Everybody has their own tastes though, in the end they can wear rags and I would still cheer for them.

The red on the retro pops more live in-person and on screen. With the black it just drowns the sharpness of the red.
I do like the retro palette without the black - be it the 80's style or brand new style we are going to have. Just no black on the primary jersey please.

Retro followed by the '04 jersey.
The '04 Jersey nailed it with the black C on the red jersey. The edge look ruined it with the striping. Hopefully Adidas cleans it up.

Yah, I'm with you on that one, although I'm sure we're the minority. Black does really well to deepen the red colour and tone down the brightness. Yellow just makes it look too orangy-red for my eyes, like Ronald MacDonald or a fire engine. It just looks too bright, especially when you add in all the other gear being red too. It's like they turned the contrast/tone setting to the max on my TV.

Good riddance to the third jersey, can't believe it ever got approved.
Time for the Flames to either go back to the retro full time, or create a modern take on the retro's fundamentals. People love those jerseys, and the team looks amazing in those colours.
I really can't believe its that hard for the organization to make a good jersey when there have been a few mock ups in the jersey thread on CP that were outstanding.

I personally like the 04-era jerseys slightly more, but the retros Rock, too - love to see either reincarnated.

The third grew on me as well, I actually don't mind it anymore, save for that stupid Wal-Mart word-mark on the front. The problem for me isn't the third itself, but more that from far back it looks similar to our normal home unis. What's the point in having an alternate third if it's only going to look slightly different than the regular reds?
As for the retro talk, for those saying the retros should stay in the 80s, I don't even care about the retros themselves returning as much as just wanting the red & yellow colour-scheme in general, without the black. I'd very much be open to a modern design, using those colours only (and keeping the classic flaming C of course).
If they do drop the black on the regular unis, I'm more than fine with a black C third. As much as shoe-horning black into our colour scheme bugs me, I recognize its been there long enough that an entire generation of Flames fans identify with the black C as "the Flames". That and the '04 run instilled nostalgia in the black C era as well, so a third in that style just makes sense.

Retro as our home and away and the '04 as our third would be my ideal scenario

But why is black an official color of the Flames now? They changed it once to add it, IMO they should change it again and take it out. When you think of Flames and fire and then black, you think burnt out or a dead fire. I think it's time to transition to something new now that the team has a good young core to start building around.

I could also argue that when you think of the Flames giving out a fireman's hat to the best player of the game you are reminded that firemen fight fires and put out Flames. Again, it is everyone's opinion. You think it should be taken out, I like it.
