Yup. He is the only voice of reason at that clown show called Rogers Sportsnet.
FAN960 is pretty crappy now in the am. Stephen Brunt is very good to listen to, but he does more baseball and CFL than hockey.

So this is all because he suggested Malkin might want out of Pittsburgh on the FAN 960 and the story blew up on him? Kind of seems like there's more to the story.

Chris Johnston from Sportsnet is now doing the Tuesday/Thursday hits with Kerr that Friedman used to have.

It's been brewing for some time. He's mentioned it numerous times on virtually every radio hit he does. His frustration is he doesn't control the message he gets used for. Bloggers and websites take his comments out of context and create stories and he can't defend himself. It's created problems with his sources and he said the last three years that each of the trade deadlines might be his last for radio

Hmmm. Jiri would know more about this - wouldn't it be a contractual obligation that he would do a certain number of appearances on SN family of stations? Or would the appearances be "extra", for which he gets paid (like Brunt), and he can do or not do as he wishes?

He once said on 960 that he wasn't contractually obligated to do the radio spots when the Malkin thing blew up. Said he had his contract looked at to confirm.

Half the time he seems to have children in the background, or he is on the way to some family event. With the time difference, the radio hits are probably a nuisance and over-lapping into his family time.

I looked forward to his afternoon segments each week, they are (were) one of the few features worth listening to on the Fan to be honest (East/West Hotstove is the other). The morning show does nothing for me and Kerr is not much better. There's not a lot left to listen to on this station now.

The conspiracy theorist in me sees these radio appearances stopping coincided with Rogers cutting costs. Hmm...

960 is so unbelievably bad I can't believe they wouldn't do whatever it takes to keep him on there. Well, actually I can. I find myself streaming 590 out of Toronto for 90% of my sports talk listening and the odd time I throw on 960 it's just to confirm that yep, they still suck. Amazing how Rogers would even want to be associated with the joke that is Fan960.
C'mon TSN, come take over Calgary sports radio!

I personally don't mind Fan960 as much as some of you do. I don't think it's good, but it's not bad. I like it a heck of a lot more than the Jim Rome show. Christ, that guy is horrible.

TSN can try but it wouldn't help. The problem is talent, and anyone who has any talent in Calgary sports media is tied up, kidnapped, thrown in a plane and flown to Toronto for their new job.

It's not bad...but once you have had EF, the morning shows are no where near as good as they are with EF.
There is only so much that Boomer can do in 4 hours. EF provided really good insight and analysis.

Sadly this is why we will be hearing Steinberg and others on the midday deadline joke hours for an awful long time.
On a positive note Rhett has been a lot better and a lot more engaged this year. It is almost a revelation. It would be great if they could get another former player with him to generate conversation like Noodles and Jeff Oneil do on TSN radio.

For a second there I thought you were referring to Eric Francis, and I was like "um, any show without Eric Francis is a good one." But then I realized you were talking about Elliotte Friedman and I was like "ahhhhh, yes I agree." These long days at the University are really starting to take their toll on me.
But yes, I agree. Elliotte makes the show 10x better. I pay really close attention when he or Darren Haynes are on the show. Other than that, I just listen so it's not dead silent in my office during the day (except between 10am-12pm, of course.)

That twitter or web sure nicholsonshockey takes everything he says on any radio station and puts it up for everyone to read. Rumor gets out and blown out of proportion. He must finally had enough

On top of Friedman dropping out, the Duhatschek segments have been moved from 8:15-8:25 to 8:30-8:40. Which means instead of listening to it during my commute, I catch the beginning just as I'm pulling in to work.
